Yes, but Leonardo did actually make pretty detailed sketches of his glider and there is evidence suggesting that he discovered the basics of aerodynamics 300 years before the Wright brothers did. If his glider worked even a little like modern gliders then is should have worked at the very least similarly to those in the games.

Leonardo actually designed one of those, though. In fact, some sources claim he actually built one, only to have it smashed by one of his assistants, who broke his leg in a crash-landing after a brief flight.

The game takes place in 1914. like someone else pointed out, that was the point. They wanted to portray the end of an era and the beginning of our world today. Such a fantastic game.
