Do you realize that the American Civil War was basically a century after when this game takes place?

Yes, but the ancestor was there, fighting in it which stands to give the assumption that said ancestor was born there. It it possible that someone is connected. Clay could have known this and made preparations to survive through Desmond, then going to another simulation being able to talk to Desmond and controlling it. Just a possibility.

No, it was shown in the database, but in the main game didn't get mentioned by voice. Actually a few times it was.
