what I meant is not be forced to buy them (armor being the best and only example.. hehe) and/or be able to unequip them...

Considering it has the Assassin, and there's a big reveal going down today, it is safe to assume it's real. Think of it like this, Ubi makes AC about France or whatever and uses your famous Das Nachtwardth or whatever as a reference since it is so historic. Also, it's just a teaser at this point.
This is a reality in my book. It all ties together.
