    Licensed Cars: Yes or No?

Do you prefer licensed or unlicensed cars? Lets look at some pro's and con's:

    LICENSED CARS
    PRO'S:
    * We seem to get a bigger list of cars with licensed cars, because the team does not need to create cars from scratch, often mixing two or more cars into one
    * We got more super cars and classics this way
    CON'S:
    * Cars cannot be fully damaged, no fires or explosions allowed
    * Manufacturers don't want their cars used in certain crimes, so no guns or running over pedestrians

    UNLICENSED CARS
    PRO'S:
    * Car manufacturers that are unavailable, like Ferrari, Mercedes, BMW, Toyota, Honda, etc, can be mimicked
    * No licensing fee's for the developer, money can be spent on important areas of the game
    * Can have guns, explosions, fire, and running over of pedestrians
    * Can have potentially awesome car damage models like Rigs of Rods
    CON'S:
    * Probably won't get as many supercars
DRIVER 6 - my wishlist - Unlicensed Vehicles, Real-Time Car Damage, Car Flipping and Roll-Overs, On Foot AND Shift, Guns, No Invisible Walls, Able to drive of cliffs, jump fences etc, Performance Upgrades, Car Creator basic example, Set up Ramps and Stunts in shift mode, Reduce Framerate to 30fps and add back all the stuff you had to take out, Please and Thank You!!!

Its hard to tell because they do have good points about each one but i may go for the licensed cars because "if" the dev released DLCs of new cars they get money for it like need for speed did, they had alot of money that they can had 3 free cars in the game without a DLC.

They could still add more cars later without licensing too

Why not make a mix of both licensed and unlicensed cars?

I vote no- the cons outweigh the benefits. You can do more with unlicensed cars when making a game, and while licensed cars are icing on the cake for the percentage of players that must be convinced they're driving a particular car, for the rest of us it doesn't really make a difference. Previous games worked just fine without licensed cars, and if the sales are anything to go by, the switch to licensed cars has not really boosted the customer base all that much.

Not to mention that in past games, we either used our imaginations about what the car was or just rolled with it, but now that they're licensed there's a million cries of 'why not add this car', 'where's car X' and 'if car Y is there why isn't car Z' etc etc. It's opened a whole new can of worms.
What the next DRIVER needs: Tighter, narrower streets for slower, more responsive cars as seen in D1,2,3. More 70s feel, possibly the entire game's setting. Keep 88mph top speed as the norm, with only bonus supercars going beyond. Get rid of Burnout as the default acceleration. Unlicensed Vehicles- so that they can be destroyed with explosions. On foot returning, with a version of shift as an unlockable. Weapons, with FPS controls like D3, only more polished. Hubcaps. Car underside pouncing. Offroad areas without invisible walls. All previous driver game cheats return plus a few surprises. All camera angles in D1 Film Director returning. Completely overhauled multiplayer, with virtually no 'boosting'. Finally, ability to play multiplayer offline, and with bots.

Failing that, D1 and 2 as fully emulated games unlockable within Driver 6.

I wouldn't mind having some licensed cars, as long as they can be destroyed beyond recognition and don't cause any other limitations, but I think it might seem a bit weird to have a handful of licensed cars and 100 rip-offs

It wouldn't bother me that some were licenced or not appearance wise- what would be strange though is that only SOME of them would get the maximum damage ability, tricking players into thinking licensed cars were stronger, when they probably aren't at all.

Well, if you think about it, Reflections would have to probably decide whether it wants to go the on foot route or not before making this decision. If it's going to be like DSF, then as most driving/racing games have to show, it wouldn't be that bad to have licensed vehicles, especially if there are other land vehicles (like motorcycles) and if aircraft and watercraft are also thrown into the picture. Though, I wonder how that would work with licensed ones, especially if a plane/helicopter crashes and it doesn't do much damage at all. That would be kind of weird.

Unless Reflections hires more employees and still manages to fit in a lot of different vehicles, then unlicensed ones would be fine. In fact, it seems like licensed ones would only work for a purely on-land (maybe on water, too ) driving game. So not including on foot is also kind of a lame excuse to include licensed vehicles, if the game will hardly be that different from DSF.

    - Why would there be more supercars and classics if they're licensed? There can be just as much fictional supercars or classics.

    - Explosions and fire: Well, this only applied for this particular Driver. Maybe in the next one, that will not be the case. Remember The Getaway (fantastic and underrated game by the way), cars burned like crazy there.

    - No guns and no running over pedestrians have nothing to do with licensing, they went back to the roots that way just like it was in Driver 1. Remember you couldn't run over people in Driver 1 and 2? That way you concentrate more on the cars and driving.

And as far as the damage goes - well, yes. I mean, I love the damage, and I have no problem with it, but it's true it could be more.

I am still for licensed cars!
