Myst 3 installed on win xp but won't boot to play

Hi! I have a toshiba satellite pro, with intel pentium dual core.Win XP pro etc.. I last installed the Myst 3 game on a similar (the same type) of laptop with no running issues-game could be played. With this computer however, I can install the game but when it comes to pressing 'play' with disc 1 in drive, the dvd drive revs up like it's going to play it but then cuts out and the game does not boot up. Have tried updating windows updates, and all compatability modes to no avail.
    Any ideas?
As you can tell I am completely inept at the tech side of things so be gentle with me!
    thanks.

I suspect you have a problem with the wrong version of Quick Time. Do you know which version is presently installed on your computer ?

If ever you have the latest version, you could try deleting it from the control panel/Add or remove programs and then install the older version that comes with the game before installing Myst 3 Exile.

    P.S.

Yes I do suggest you delete the present Quick Time version through the Add and Remove Program in the control panel.

Myst 3 is an old game and needs an older version of Quick Time. After deleting the present version, use the Quick Time version that comes with the game.

You said that your pc was up to date, so, do not use the DirectX version that is offered with the Myst 3 game.

Good luck with your new game.

After having finished the game, you could delete that older Quick Time and reinstall the latest version found at this link...

    Note:
Here, I am assuming you have a legit copy of Myst 3 Exile and not an illegal copy given by a "friend"

Go to this link and download the older version 6.5.2 of Quick time (down on the list). If that does not work, try version 6.4.0
