SH3 freezes at attempt to transfer to another squadron, says" location: (null)"
Hiya, all. I recently found my game disk for the install and upgrades I did soon after the game was released, and had some decent careers saved. But to try to re-learn forgotten skills, I took an earlier saved career and resumed his career.
I remember being able to request transfers and have them granted if my record was good enough. Today when I tried a couple of times, each time I got as far as choosing the squadron and hitting the "button" by the phone at the top to put in the transfer request.
I get a beige panel show up in the middle of he screen, alluding to a transfer to a location of (null). I click the "OK" button and see the little red ink stamp effect, but can't get out of the screen. Can't go back, can't choose another squadron, can't even exit the game without starting Task Manager and ending the application (well, I s'pose I could re-boot the whole machine, but no real advantage seems evident by doing that.)
I've got the appropriate 1.4.sumpin' patch running, and the game runs single-player only, so that's the patch I used.
I vaguely recall this problem being identified, but I'm running the game for the first time in a couple of years now, and have forgotten a lot of stuff. When I tried a search in the forums here, I get either zero hits or about 55,000 depending upon my search terms.
Machine has been massively upgraded in all parameters from its original configuration, although the HDD containing the game is still in the case, along with the Windoze XP Pro OS that it's had since I built it.
Any ideas? Or is there some file or something I should post here to help the progammer-type denizens of the forums? I'm already sufficiently verbose in most situations that I don't wanna spam with 30 pages of text from diag files or whatever if this problem and a fix are already on the tip of some nicer person's typing fingers.
Thanks muchly,
