    +1 Recommend, Cajun approved.

Room for improvement in anything really, but a definite thumbs up. (Now if only they would include an actual :thumbs up: in the new forum...)
    Good hunting,

Check it, bleed. Bro... was on! Didn't trip. But the folks was freakin', man. Hey, and the pilots were laid to the bone, Home. So Blood hammered out and jammed jet ship. Tightened that bad sucker inside the runaway like a mother. Sheet. - Airplane II

I am sooo watching this when/if it comes out here. I know it's going to have some ordinary moments, some inaccuracies but that is not the point.

The opening scene shows an attack on a large formation of bombers and the LW aircraft attacked in a fairly leisurely manner, sailing along through the bomber boxes, picking the odd B-17 to shoot at. It was a bit too Star Wars like. The main antagonist, I'll call him 'Scar' has his kill markings displayed all over the fuselage of his 109, wrong, but only anal-retentive realism freaks will likely complain, most folks don't realize they were actually painted on the rudder.

In a later scene a bunch of P-40's are taxiing out for take off and you can see them weaving back and forth, a nice touch. The seemingly random use of oxygen masks (not worn at altitude, worn during landing), was a bit grating, but probably only for a grongnard like myself. There are some continuity clangers, such as a bomb run over a target where the ground is green, but in a connected scene immediately following, there is snow on the ground.

I'd also love to have the Red tails dm's, their P-40's and P-51's are able to take a large number of 20mm and 30mm hits with little effect. I'd also like to have the 109's fm's, they don't seem to suffer any loss of maneuverability when equipped with gun pods. On the other hand, this is the first film where the 109's are shown with working nose cannons, another nice touch.

Finally, I think George Lucas must have a great sense of humour. Late in the film the Red Tails go up against some 262's. At one point you see a pair of them flying by, the scene only lasts a second, and if you listen carefully you'll hear....

    ....Tie fighters.

    Well done Mr Lucas!
I didn't notice the Tie Fighter sound effect, but I could have sworn I heard a sound effect from one of the Star Wars prequels in the beginning of the film.

I saw it last night with a friend, who doesn't usually see this kind of movie but wanted to see it when she saw an interview with Lucas talking about how Hollywood didn't want to back this movie so he did it himself. That was enough for her to see it, but based on our discussion afterwords I think she would give it a C score. Things like bogus squadron markings or P-51s that survive through a hail of 30mm fire didn't come into question with her, the majority of her complaints were about the cliche characters and the transparent story. She thought it was worth seeing at least.

I liked it. It could have been better, but it could have been much worse. I don't expect a completely note-for-note historical masterpiece, and for the most part it was entertaining. I'll add it to my DVD collection for sure.

I went and saw it tonight. I thought it was pretty good. There WAS some very cheesy acting in it. Overall, I liked it. It even made my eyes well up a few times. The Italian girl could've been a little hotter, though.

The sound of the 30mm guns on the 262 was so cool, too bad they got the rate of fire wrong. It sounded more like a yak 9T shooting with that slow rate of fire. Was cool none the less. I think I'll pick up the BlueRay as well when it comes out.

This thread, as compared to virtually all other threads (both Flightsim and Movie critic forums) simply has to be Spam by the Red Tails promotion department. The movie is Baaaad! Anyone giving this movie a rating above C minus must have some sort of agenda...or inconceivably bad taste/knowledge with regard to Acting and Directing...and WWII aviation. The movie is a joke. And....what's with the guy who gave this Ten Stars??? Are you serious?????

Below is a link to the best and very thorough review of Red Tails which I have seen.

I thought I gave it a fair and disappointing review. Different people have different tastes and opinions... your's counts about as much as theirs.

Just ignore 'em, Worf. He's obviously trolling.

Finally went and saw this with my mother. We both enjoyed it but as mentioned by others the dialog was a little stilted and the characters not fleshed out enough (although I did enjoy the love story...probably one of the better plot points). Many of the scenes lacked context and I think a little more historical background might have helped in this respect.

However, something about the film kept nagging at me and as I thought about it I finally realized what it was. Imagine the film in black and white and it fits in perfectly with the period films that came out during and after the war. I think if the director was trying to recreate the feel of films of that era then he hit it spot on.

I think the film could have been much better than it was but I'll definitely buy it when it comes out on DVD/Blue-Ray. And if it sparks interest in IL-2 and our little community then...well...so much the better.

    S!
