just bought a custom machine for home use, to run IL2 of course. Is xp professional worth the extra $ or will home edition be just the same. I know network is much better on Pro but this is a home machine on a very small workgroup not ever connecting to a big lan domaine.

    The machine is:

    1 MB ASUS A8N-SLI Premium NF4SLI 939
    1 VGA EVGA GF 7800GT 256-P2-N516 R
1 POWER SUPPLY ANTEC TPII-550ATX RTL
    1 CPU AMD 64 |3700+ ATHLON 64 939P RT SAN DIEGO
    2 MEM 1GCORSAIR
    1 HD 250GB|WD 7200RPM WD2500JD 8MB
    1 DVD+/-RW NEC ND-3550A BK

I do believe that the "Pro" version also has some extra backup capabilities not found in the "Home" version, and that might be worth it to you someday.

Besides, anything called "Pro" HAS to be better, right??

From what I've been told and heard, Pro is more of a business Operating system, since it has all kinds of flashy goodies and such. Like the backup mentioned above. I tend to keep to the Home edition, or at least an OEM version of WinXP Pro will save you some cash.

Both Home and Pro XP have the backup function, you just have to activate it in the home version.
    From Microsoft:
"If you use Windows XP Professional, the Windows Backup utility (Ntbackup.exe) should be ready for use. If you use Windows XP Home Edition, you'll need to follow these steps to install the utility:"
