I have been playing Splinter fine without any problems up until the Oil Rig. All of my character voices do not sound (like people talking), and cutscenes and Lambert's messages cannot be heard. I finished the level and once I picked up the tech's suitcase the level wouldn't continue. Fischer just stood there with briefcase in hand, and Lambert's last message watermarked in the upper left hand corner.
I have not had this problem on any other level.
My machine runs on Windows XP SP1, DirectX 9.0b, the latest ATI Cat 3.6 and SoundBlaster Audigy drivers, and the Splinter Cell patch 1.2b.
Any suggestions? I haven't seen a message related to this so I decided to post.
Any help is appreciated. I can provide my DX DIAG txt is asked.

That's really odd. It sounds like the game didn't load something properly. I'd just reinstall the game if I were you and see if that helps. It's probably just a file that didn't get installed properly. I have an Audigy and don't have that problem. Oh, are you using the Beta release drivers? That could be the cause. I'm currently using the last "real" release.
My system:

I will try to reinstall, thanks for the advice.
I was using beta drivers from IBM just before I installed the latest "interim" update from Creative, which is supposed to ride us over until the next big driver release in August.

Well, it's a good way to get this thread locked, because the rules say we're not supposed to mention that because it's illegal, so you better edit your message and remove that. But no, it doesn't have anything to do with it. It's probably just a bad file. The reinstallation should fix it, just make sure you apply the 1.2b patch.

Ill reinstall and that's that.

Well, if you get one of those "game drives," it's not because it uses your hdd as a virtual cd. The only problem is that it takes up so much space. You need a large hdd to use it.

The game itself doesn't pull any data off of the disc while you play. It just checks for the CD in the tray. It's just another anti-piracy technique that is a bad choice because people that buy the game have to put up with it. UT 2003 doesn't utilize it anymore because of the bad-rep cd-checking gives games.
Isn't your HDD already a "gamedrive" by having all of the data it needs to use installed beforehand?

No, a computer doesn't pull data off the cd while in play, I know that. That is, unless you choose to do a minimul install because then it reads the cinamatics off the disk. Yes it is an antipiracy thing, and that's why breaking it is illegial. Putting the files on your hdd isn't the same thing as putting the disk in your drive because the disk itself is encoded with a series of data that the game finds and allows itself to run. The gamedrive, on the other hand, copys the disk as it is, perfectly so the encoded information isn't lost in the ripping process. It creates a virtural cd image of the real disk.
