Thread: X45 breakdown question | Forums

Hi guys. I've had the Saitek X45 for about 18 months. The past year I have not been able to log very much time, but after finally returning to the sim I have discovered something that makes me cringe. My X45 might be on it's last leg!! The problem seems to be related to the cord that connects the stick and the throttle. If this cord is disturbed, even just a little bit, the power on the throttle cuts out and it doesn't work for a short period of time. Is there a fix I can work out or am I forced to buy a replacement?

Not sure if there's a fix for that, but I've had lots of problems with the X45 throttle, even with a replacement. I eventually just went ahead and bought an X52 and havn't had any issues with it. Hope it works out.

It can be fixed but it's a fiddly job as Saitek have seen fit to liberally apply silicone to various parts of the circuit board. It's usually a broken solder joint where the connector mounts to the circuit board but can sometimes be in the plug or cord. If you're good with a soldering iron and electronic components, don't be afraid to give it a go.

Thanks for the responses. Right now I'm resorting to using my old Saitek Cyborg 3D, which isn't a bad stick but a far cry from the X45. I'll try opening up the throttle and seeing if I can't fix it, I can't break it anymore than it already is at least!

I have the same problem and I found a way to fix it...though temporarily. I found that when the cord is placed in a certain posistion, it is fine. So I taped it. So basically, fiddle with the cord and get to a point where the throttle lights stay on and tape it in that position. I know it's not the best fix but I don't have any problems.

Same-O problem also ,had the X45 for just over a year, joystick was ok but notice the throttle lights go on/off , throttle won't go 100% in game only registered about 80-90%.
If I jiggled the wire that connect between stick and throttle was Ok for a bit ,but gradually it got worse and the whole throttle died on me.

I suggest you take it back to where you brought it, the X45 got a 2year warranty.
When I got mine back noticed the wire connecting throttle -Joystick looked thicker.
