I'm getting nothing out of the center speaker and the sound options are just for volume and music on/off. Anyone else. I can't find a config file that mentions it either. Dead Space 5.1 works great, would be nice if this did too-
Windows XP SP3
Core 2 6300
X-Fi Fat1ity
Geforce 9800GTX+
EDIT:Yeah, I've screwed around, and found this out: when I alt-tab out of my game I get no sound from my center speaker in any windows programs or through the sound card tests (X-fi Fata1ity). As soon as I end Far Cry 2 process in task manager- boom- my center speaker is re-enabled.

Oh and I have z-5500 speakers

I have a similar problem with my X-Fi Xtremegamer.. but i only get stereo sound, no matter what i do.
Using latest non-beta drivers on XP Pro SP3.
Just like you, 5.1 works fine in all other games. no real options for audio cheeses me off. It's another example of console-itis, just like the widescreen FOV issue.
I'll have to check out that alt-tab oddity you mention...
EDIT: ya i tried it and I also lose other speakers when i alt-tab to windows. My speaker test only give soudn from the left and right channels, just as the game does.
I also tried changing THX settings and also tried 6.1 and 7.1.
Same result.

same problem. no 5.1 sound
WinXP SP3
Creative Audigy 2 ZS
all drivers up-to-date

Have any of you installed the beta drivers release a couple days ago? There is no mention of Far Cry 2 in teh release notes but it may be worth a shot...

Same here. Stereo only. x-fi gamer, xp sp3.
Funny thing is 5.1 surround works perfectly in the map editor, just not in game.

FIXED!
edit the file DARE.INI in the "\Far Cry 2\Data_Win32\SoundBinary" folder. Edit the line:
DISABLE_OPTIMISATION=TRUE
to:
DISABLE_OPTIMISATION=FALSE
Worked for me. Full positional audio now.
