I have a top notch computer and it plays any other game on max without any trouble but when i try to play S7 i get a weird problem.
The intrologo with Ubi and Blue Byte runs fine but when it start to Ubisoft present the screen look if you are running some kind of 3d mark benchtest and its impossible to play the game like this.
I have tried many configuration to have it to work but all have been a failure so far so i am out of ideas of what i can try next.
My graphic adapter is ATI HD 4870 2 pieces and i see that there are more who have trouble running it.

I run the game (demo) just fine, almost all settings on high, disabled AA as well as MS. Never got the message that there ain't a server available (location: Netherlands)
My computer specs:
Intel Core 2 duo CPU (6600 @ 2.4GHz)
4Gb RAM
NVIDIA GeForce 8800GT (2gb, driver 8.17.11.9621)
Windows 7 Home Basic (32 bit)
DirectX 11
Therefor I run the game on 1680x1050 (widescreen), 32bit, 60Hz.
Only thing I'm bothered about is the fan that is spinning like hell when I play Settlers 7, it doesn't spins that fast on other games (ie GTA IV, GRID, etc).
I've put myself on hold to buy this game until a new patch is released that solves bugs, connectivity and graphical issues.

Have you reported the problem direct to Ubisoft? I'm not expecting them to read the forums, or post here.
But the more of us who report the problem, the more chance we'll have of a fix.

From your spec it looks like you only have one 8800GT card, not two in SLI mode, so you wouldn't see the problem affecting crossfire and SLI users.
You might want to try a program called EVGA precision, this allows you to monitor your cards temps and adjust the fan manually if it doesn't need to run that fast.

The problem occurs most often with ATI cards, regardless of drivers and crossfire. Most people say it is due to crossfire, but that is a load of bull.
ATI either needs to come out with a hotfix (which is rare) or UBI/Blue Byte needs to patch their game to utilize ATI cards. My best guess is that all of their development machines were Nvidia so they just assumed it would work fine and dandy on ATI, that's just sloppy development.
Either way I'm glad I'm not an epileptic because the flicker is bad enough to give a poor guy a seizure.
