Yes, they should be. I don't think it changes the names, it just replaces them.

yea if its installed then it should be there. Look one by one down the skin list. And make sure you are in the right aircraft (example: if you installed a Mig-29 skin, it may be for the A version or the S version.

ok i am missing something because i have installed 5 new su-27 skins and in the payload screen, in color schemes, i only see the 5 stock skins... for example i have this skin for the chinese airfoce, in the rar file theres these two files SU-27-SKIN-L-09.bmp.dds and SU-27-SKIN-R-09.bmp.dds. on the readme it says i can install them manually by puting them in the
temptextures folder. ok what am i doing wrong?
i tried with loman and still they dont show up in the color schemes list

Do it through loman or modman because its a little tricky to do it manually since you have to make sure the file is .bmp file and not just simply copy and paste it from a zip file. And the Su-27 skin should show up 2nd to the last (i believe) i dont see why its not working.

Depending on how the Skin authors setup the skins you might be over-writing one or more on the skins you're installing. Lock On has a fixed number of "available skins" and a custom skins replaces one of the standard skins. If you're loading 5 custom skins and the authors all used the same skin to mod you'll only have 1 new skin. Most skin authors have a readme file that explains which skin name is being replaced.

Yes, skin mods can be installed manually by putting them in the temptextures folder. In some cases this is what LoMan or Modman does automatically for you.

As to why your installs don't show up its hard to tell what you're doing wrong.
Try this - uninstall ALL skins. Then add one at a time and check to see that it worked right.
After you get one working, you can go ahead and add in another and check to see what the updated skins look like.
As you add extra skins pay attention to the file names being updated to tell if you're over-writing another installed custom skin.
