In your install error message topic, you said "when i try to install myst 4 i get "IS_STRING_NOT_DEFINED" english manual files , feature transfer error, the parameter is incorrect." Here, you're saying that you're having freezing problems. Does that mean that you can now install the game and are having freezes during game play?
What...exactly and in detail... is your Revelation problem? Include the complete text of any error messages you get.

hi the error message i was getting was from corrupted files for quicktime....i reinstalled it and the game installed. the freezing problem has always been. i tried to install also the game with the computer in SELECTIVE mode and it would not.....had to go back to reglaur mode for it to install. i think that it is just not meant to be for me to play this game. also.....any other game i have has installed and played accept myst 4.
I didnt think i would get an answer because there is no answer. what a awaste of time and money.
Suggestions:
1. If you have lots of processes and applications running in the background, they could be using up memory unnecessarily and causing problems. Use Windows Task Manager to close everything, including your anti-virus program, except for Explorer.exe, Ctfmon.exe, and whatever processes your hardware needs, then start Revelation.
----- 1. Press Ctrl+Alt+Del once, and then click on Task Manager.
----- 2. Click on the Applications tab.
----- 3. Click on the desired application to highlight it.
----- 4. Click on End Task.
----- 5. Repeat this procedure until *all* background applications are closed, including your anti-virus program and software firewall.
----- 6. Click on the Processes tab.
----- 7. Click on the desired process to highlight it.
----- 8. Click on End Process.
----- 9. Repeat this procedure until all unnecessary background processes are closed. If you aren't sure which processes can be safely closed, check out the AnswersThatWork Task List Programs index. The most common tasks are described, and which ones are essential and which can be safely closed are noted.
---- 10. Start Revelation. (Do not reboot before starting Revelation!)
Note: DO NOT leave your Internet connection active after doing this, especially if you have only a software firewall.
2. Your virtual memory paging file is not set properly - it should be set to 2X your system RAM. Reset paging size file as follows. Before changing the settings, note what you started with, so that you can go back to those settings if desired. Be certain that you're logged into Windows as an Administrator or a member of the Administrators group, then:
-- a. Click Start, right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
-- b. In the System Properties dialog box, click the Advanced tab.
-- c. In the Performance pane, click Settings.
-- d. In the Performance Options dialog box, click the Advanced tab.
-- e. In the Virtual memory pane, click Change.
-- f. Under Drive , click the drive that contains the paging file you want to change.
-- g. Under Paging file size for selected drive, click Custom size.
-- h. Change both Initial size and Maximum size to 768, the proper value in megabytes.
-- i. Click Set, and then click OK.
-- j. Click OK to close the Performance Options dialog box, and then click OK to close the System Properties dialog box. Close everything back to the Desktop.
-- k. Reboot.
3. Install NVIDIA's ForceWare version 77.77 video driver and then version 71.84 if 77.77 doesn't help. These drivers are available here.
Here's the driver installation procedure. First, clear your Internet Explorer caches.
-- a. Close all open applications.
-- b. Open a single Internet Explorer session.
-- c. Click on Tools > Internet Options.
-- d. Click on Delete Cookies > OK.
-- e. Click on Delete Files (check the 'Delete all offline content' box) > OK.
-- f. Click on Clear History > Yes.
-- g. Click on OK to exit.
Then, use Windows Explorer to search your hard disk for \temp, \tmp, and \temporary folders, and delete any files in these folders that aren't currently in use. If Windows complains when you try to delete a file, leave that file alone!
-- a. Click on Tools > Find > Files or Folders.
-- b. Type temp or tmp or temporary in the Named: box.
-- c. Click on the arrow at the right end of the Look in: box and then click on the disk drive to be searched.
-- d. Click on Find Now to start the search.
-- e. Click on the temp (or tmp or temporary) folders found to open them.
-- f. Delete any files in these folders that aren't currently in use.
And finally, install the video driver. Don't try shortcuts - do it this way:
-- a. Log into Windows with full Administrator privileges.
-- b. Re-install DirectX 9.0c, available here, and reboot.
-- c. Uninstall the existing NVIDIA driver using Control Panel's Add or Remove Programs.
----- 1. Click on Start > Control Panel, then double-click Add or Remove Programs.
----- 2. In the Currently installed programs box, click on the NVIDIA driver you want to remove.
----- 3. Click on Change (or Change/Remove).
----- 4. If prompted to confirm the removal of the program, click Yes.
----- 5. Close Control Panel back to the Desktop, reboot, and log into Windows with full Administrator privileges.
-- d. If prompted, cancel the installation of the display adapter during bootup. If given a choice of default drivers to install, select 'Standard PCI Graphics Adapter (VGA)'. Reboot if prompted.
-- e. Close all unnecessary applications and processes running in the background, including anti-virus software. Use Windows Task Manager to close everything except for Explorer.exe, Ctfmon.exe, and whatever processes your hardware needs:

4. If the above don't help, do a complete/full Revelation re-install from a clean boot. You can re-install in one of two ways:
-- a. Log into Windows with full Administrator privileges, and install Revelation to your Administrator Account.
-- b. Log into Windows with full Administrator privileges, create a new User Account with all the rights/privileges you can give it, reboot, then install Revelation to the new account. (See How To Create and Configure User Accounts in Windows XP for details.) When you re-install Revelation, wherever it says "Log into Windows with full Administrator privileges.", substitute "Log into your new User Account."
Don't try shortcuts - do it this way. First, uninstall Revelation using Control Panel's Add or Remove Programs:
-- a. Log into Windows with full Administrator privileges:
-- b. Copy the Program Files Revelation \save folder or the \My Documents\myst4-revelation savegames folder to another location on your hard disk.
-- c. Click on Start > Control Panel, then double-click Add or Remove Programs.
-- d. In the Currently installed programs box, click on the Myst IV - Revelation entry.
-- e. Click on Change (or Change/Remove).
-- f. If prompted to confirm the removal of the program, click Yes.
-- g. Close Control Panel back to the Desktop.
-- h. Use Windows Explorer to remove any remaining Program Files Revelation files and folders. For example, if it exists, delete the folder "\UBISOFT\Myst IV - Revelation" in "C:\Program Files\UBISOFT\Myst IV - Revelation".
-- i. Reboot into normal Windows.
Then, do a complete Revelation re-install:
-- a. Log into Windows with full Administrator privileges.
-- b. Use Windows Explorer to search all drives for \temp, \tmp, and \temporary folders. Delete any files in these folders that aren't currently in use.
---c. Click Start > Run.
-- d. Type msconfig in the Open box, then click on OK.
-- e. Click on Selective Startup on the General tab.
-- f. Under Selective Startup, clear the check boxes for:
----- 1. Process SYSTEM.INI File
----- 2. Process WIN.INI File
----- 3. Load Startup Items
-- g. On the Services tab, click the Hide All Microsoft Services check box, then click Disable All.
---h. Click on OK, and then click on Restart.
-- i. Using Start > Run, install Revelation, accepting the defaults for a full install.
-- j. Restore the settings you changed in steps d. through g.
----- 1. Click Start > Run.
----- 2. Type msconfig in the Open box, then click on OK.
----- 3. Click on Normal Startup - load all device drivers and services on the General tab.
----- 4. Click on OK, and then click on Restart to reboot into normal Windows.
-- k. Copy the saved \save or \myst4-revelation savegames into their proper positions in the Program Files Revelation or \My Documents folders.
You can try the patches. I recommend applying the 1.02 patch and then the 1.03 patch. If you notice, the 1.02 patch is 41.1 MB, while the 1.03 patch is only 15.4 MB, which may mean there's more "goodness" included in 1.02 than in 1.03. Apply the patches as follows, being certain you log into Win XP with full Administrator privileges:
-- a. Reboot.
-- b. Install myst4_v1.00_to_v1.02_pc.exe.
-- c. Reboot.
-- d. Install myst4_v1.0_to_v1.03_pc.exe.
-- e. Reboot.
5. If none of the above help, re-install Win XP.
