with this new monitor when i select the above resolution my desktop icons do not fit properly on the screen some are off the top or oof at the side?/

Does your monitor have an auto adjust button? If yes what happens when you hit that? If it doesn't have an auto adjust couldn't you just use the monitors manual controls to reposition the screen?

I have a 19' wide screen with that resolution, the easiest way to overcome the problem is drag and drop your desk icons to the position you want then reboot your computer.
