Thanks for stinking with me here.., The whole thing is, I can connect to my own dedi, when it's running an online, and I'm outside the local lan, as from work IP. And I can join it behind the router while it is running a LAN server. I can't connect when it's running a Online server and I'm behind the router, at another IP... I'm at a loss. I'll keep at it though, it's worth it. Thanks again.

What you're describing is common: "I can't join my own dedi." When people say that, they usually mean the exact situation you are having.
What router do you have? I wonder if this "virtual server" biz as in my d-link would help you?

It's a NetGear WGR614v5 with latest flash update.

I am having the exact same issue with my Linksys WRT54GS. However I'm not convinced that the problem is with the router because I was able to host and play on my own dedicated server (using the same machine even) prior to upgrading to vista 32bit (previously I was running xp pro).
kmcrobb: it seems that you have this pretty well figured out so I'm hoping that this thread can help me find a solution...thanks.

Hogman, I don't think it's a router issue either... It has something to do with a variable in the server config like PB_SV_LanMask [IP Subnet Mask] or something else that we're missing. It doesn't accept any connection locally, like it should, when it runs a dedi WAN server. When I run it as a dedi LAN server, I have no issues. I've even booted from the same CD and ran two machines together, one running the local dedi on same box as client. Everything works as expected in any configuration, except the dedi WAN server, and I'm on another machine on subnet and try to connect... doesn't see any server on the LAN. I'm at a loss...

I wouldn't put it past being a vista thing... since I too run 32bit...

First of all sorry to bump an old thread! But I was wondering if anyone has found a fix to this issue? I have spent several hours messing with this issue.
Basically, I have this nailed down to one specific setting in the gamerprofile.xml in My Docs -> My Games -> Farcry 2 folder. Initially I thought it was because the dedi server app and game shared the same ports, but ruled this out by changing the ports in the xml and server worked fine using the new ports.
At this moment internet players can connect to my server but I cannot, get the Cannot connect at this time error and the server shows ping 9999. However, if I change the detect public address in the xml above to 0 then I get a ping time and can connect but players outside my network can't.
Anybody have any thoughts or got around this issue?

Hi, I run an online dedicated server from one PC in my network and I can join it through the serverbrowser with my other PC which is in the same network behind a router (Sitecom Gaming router).
Don't waste your time trying to find a setting in your profiles, because I have not changed anything there.
In your router make sure you have given your PC that operates as server a static Ip-adres (I reserve static IP-adresses based on the MAC). Use portforwarding in your routers firewall to redirect the FC2 game ports to the mentioned static IP-adress. Don not use DMZ, it's unnecessary and unsave.
You do not have to set anything for the PC which you use as a client.
In the router you will also find a setting which is somthing like allow to respond to Wan ping requests, if you allow this it will solve your problem with the 9999 ping.
SetSetting detectPublicAddress should be set to 1 for online server, however the comment in the config file tells you otherwise
If you are still out of luck in getting the connection you want, you could try changing some settings with the NAT relaxation options in your router. Good luck !
