(VbaL): in the moment of depth charges, can we safely turn up our engines at max without someone hearing us, just like in real life?
DevTeam: It would take great experience and skill to know when to turn up the engines to max and how long can you remain undetected. But it will definitely be possible!

    Was that useful?
You could only let your motors run fast during the blast, which wouldn't be very long compared to the total time of the engagement.

Yes, just a short run full speed to avoid the kick.

But wouldn't the blast go much faster than the submarine?
And wouldn't the blast be too short for the sub to accelerate enough?
And if you mess up your timing you'll only give the destroyers a burst of noise to hear.

The noise is a bad thing, but each meter gained off the explosion point could be holy.
Then, if still alive, silent and slow again.

As far as I know the destroyers and escort vessels lost their Asdic contact during the final approach run. So they were actually making a blind run. Since they ussually attacked at full speed it also rendered the hydrophones useless. It also took some time after the depth charging for asdic to re-establish the contact. This basically ment that just prior and immediatelly after the atack you were free to go A-K.
There is a catch though. This technique worked as long as you were being attacked ba a single vessel and there were no other "pickets" in vicinity!

The idea of sneaking away always appeals to me, so the more accurate the fallibility of the AI compared to human the better, I just hope that any weakness in detection systems show up as well.

I don’t know about hitting full speed, I’d probably still try and go softly softly into the deep then hit full when out of range.

    This is very COOOL info!!
It's great to know that devs gives us possibility to utilise this kind, and hopefuly a lot of other, evasive tactics and manoeuvres.

I'd like to know also if "narrow silhouette" tactic will work.
if I remember well in SH2 it doesn't metter, in what dirrection to a DD is your uboot, while DD is trying to catch you by ASDIC. It should be harder to detect you if you "show" him a narrow silhouette.

To add to what Messervy said: yes, the asdic/sonar active system can only train downwards 45 degrees or so, and they have to go to full speed just before the drop to avoid damaging the destroyer itself, but there is one more thing-the depth charges themselves make a huge amount of noise in the water, plus a huge amount of bubbles, rendering both asdic and hydrophones useless for a minute or more.

When you can hear the destroyer's propellors through the hull (about 1000 meters range or so) is a good time to go to full speed and start diving and turning. At that point it's too late for him to change his drop depth settings, and you should be good for a minute or two's full-speed escape run.

As was pointed out, if they're using Walker's 'Hunter/Killer' tactics you're in a lot more 'hot water', so to speak.

From what I have read in reality there is a window of time after a DC goes off that nobodys ASDIC will work so you can give a burst of full power to try to get those few critical boat lengths away from where the enemy thinks you are.
The trick is, of coarse, to figure out exactly how long this window is. Is it 30 seconds or 3 minutes? Nobody ever told us in SH-2.
