OK, my turn to ask for help. Any clues what would cause Far Cry to crash to desktop after the load screen completes but before the team/player choice screen comes up? Looks like the crash is right when the screen is supposed to switch.

I can load and run a SP level with no problems.

I had a similar problem after trying out the Jurassic park mod and one other SP mod. A corrupted or changed script.pak file. I had to reinstall FC and the patch.

I have had the same on a few occassions, I was putting it down to the latest patch...

There seems no particular repetition or fault mechnism, for me it has been different maps on different servers...

I'm seeing some strange behavior in other areas besides Far Cry. Some virus infections, and strange video behavior when I try to get into my BIOS, inability to flash my BIOS from Windows, etc.

Ran some serious virus scans, spyware scans, etc., last night and this morning. Found some virus infections and taking steps to clean them up, but they are looking pretty persistent. I'll keep working on it.

How did an ETD (Electronically Transmitted Disease) get into your system? What are you running for anti virus and spyware? Just asking in case we all need to check for some kind of new bug or did you practice unsafe computing?

Answer to my Far Cry problem - remove scripts99.pak from FCdata folder. This file came from Outpost22, a SP map I was trying out. When I removed this file, MP works just fine.

Where did I get my ETD - kids and P2P programs. It was a W32 virus, an older variant it seems, nothing new. Needed to disable System Restore to totally clean it from my system. Did come to the conclusion that I should be updating my virus definitions daily, and running full system scans much more frequently. McAfee is updating their virus DAT files daily.

Still haven't figured out why I can't get into my BIOS without strangeness happening, but that's not as urgent an issue at the moment.
