This brief extract from the latest Ubisoft press release shows a very healthy company. In terms of the Silent Hunter franchise, this is very good news.

    UBISOFT REPORTS FIRST-QUARTER 2008-09 SALES
 First-quarter sales up 26% to €169 million, outstripping targets.

Paris, July 24, 2008 – Today, Ubisoft reported its sales for the first fiscal quarter ended June 30, 2008.

    Sales

Sales for the first quarter of 2008-09 came to €169 million, up 25.8%, or 33.0% at constant exchange rates, compared with the €134 million recorded for the same period of 2007-08.

First-quarter sales for 2008-09 outstripped the initial guidance of approximately €154 million issued when Ubisoft released its sales figures for fourth-quarter 2007-08. This performance was primarily attributable to the solid showing of:
    − Titles launched in 2007-08, such as Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six® Vegas 2, Assassin's Creed® and Rayman Raving Rabbids® 2.
− The "Games For Everyone" brands including the Petz®, Imagine™ and MyCoach series which represented 33% of sales versus 11% in the first quarter of 2007-08.
− Titles launched in the first quarter of 2008-09, including Assassin's Creed and Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Vegas 2 for PC, Haze™, and the MyWeightLossCoach game which has got off to a promising start.

I don't think there's any doubt about SH5, C. The only issue is what exactly it will be.

The german version of the Official Silent Hunter IV website has a interesting poll at the moment.

Dont know if the english language one has the same poll.

"Which would, for you, be the most important features in a new submarine simulation ?"

    - Dynamic Campaign
    - Realistic Damage Model
    - Atmosphere (Sound,Graphics, AI)
    - Fully accessible submarine (All compartments)
    - Wolfpack AI
    - Complex and in-depth crew management
    - SH-3 Graphics style (Not sure what they mean with that)

    - German uboats
    - Living environment
    - No Bugs

I wonder if this is just a "out of curiosity" poll by some website admin or if there is a official agenda behind it.

The last one is huge with me. For once, I would love Ubisoft to allocate sufficient development time so that they can release a finished product. They allocated 11 months for SH4, which was totally inadequate.

Hmmm? I didn't see all of the above as a choice.

I would be careful about using Ubi's statistics. Sure they collected that amount of money from distributors, but is that the actual amount from true sales to consumers. I know that Ubi shipped 2 million copies of Vegas 2, butthe did not sell anywhere near that number.

No, I made that up from your post. The only poll I see is the 'What would you like in a sub sim?' thread.
