Im going to start of by saying I am not saying I love Ubi or that I am totaly over the GR2 PC fiasco.
But there is alot of negativity in these forums for being only a week old. E3 came and went without PC specific info. But this years E3 Was primarily for the XBox 360 and PS3. There were only like 20 PC games demoed, out of about 300 total.
If we look back to last year we were Stuck with a General Forum for all platforms til October. So I give Ubi 1 point for giving the PC gamers thier own forum from day one. Ubi has also made it clear that the PC version will be tailored to be in line with the origanal GR as far as tacticl play goes. And Given the choice between Ubi Montreal, or Shanghai or a new European country....Well I would go with Choice 3 myself.
The biggest complaint seems to be that GR 3 is too "Futuristic". At first glance maybe, but after some research and some thought I dont think this to be the case.
4 men against an entire Army???
Think about what GR has always been, "The razor sharp tip of the sword" THE Ghosts are a special forces team above all other special forces teams. They dont go in to fight the Entire war by themselves. They go in to give recon ahead of a larger force, disable radar or air defences, extract persanel, and identify targets for air strikes. In GR we led 6 members against a total of 13 countries to perform these duties, so does it really sem that far of a stretch to only have 4 to do the same in one city? Later on I will show why it isnt such a stretch.
Its too Futuristic???
Well considering that the army succesfully tested this equipment in Sept 2000, with 12 men against a battalion, and the 12 were victorious. They began refining and scaling down the components until they reached a size that was useable on a large scale. After 492.4 Million dollars in testing the US army placed an Order for $1904.9 Million (1.9 Billion) Dollars to begin recieving shipments in 2005. The First of the designated 4 man(4 men??? WTF) Units recently returned from Using the first shipment of this gear in Afghanistan. The only complaint this Unit had was that the 12.4 pounds of batteries was a bit to heavy. The Army expects total delivery of all units by 2010. So its seems someone at RSE did thier Homework for this version of GR.
The Ret was floating in the Game footage....
Yep, The XM8 is NOT a camera gun, but the LAnd Warrior system does have wiring connected to the weapon wich projects a cross hair onto the HUD, So as the weapon moves the HUDs Cross hair image will move also.. IT DOES NOT SEE AROUND CORNERS. The Camera gun does however give the ability to view around corners.
The Camera gun???
Also part of the land warrior system. There are several working versions of this weapon, dont know which one Ubi is working from. Some think this will make the game lopsided, or give an advantage. Yes and No. For ages soldiers have been finding ways to see around a corner without getting shot. The most common is a beyonet, a mirror and some chewing gum. Although this weapon may provide a safe way to peak a corner, imagine how hard it would be to keep a CAMERA RET on a target with your arms extended and unable to brace for recoil. So you trade off Accuracy for Safety.
With the links and Photos Im gonna post you will see how much the GR3 uniforms look like the Land Warrior Uniforms the army has ordered. The Uniform also monitors Body temeperature, heart rate, blood pressure, and sends a wound location to the team medics HUD. Alot of what I found out was in Popular mechanics that I found at the library, but I will post links to all I have from the net.
I dont think Ubi is to far off base here. The Ghosts have alwalys been cutting edge future weapons. I think these things will make the game far more challanging by forcing us to find ways to "out Smart" the technology. Jsut because someone has all the gadgets, doesnt mean they will win. Tactics will prevail everytime. If Ubi gives us the tactical game they say they are going to. We will get a glimpse at future warfare, and be ahead of the BF and OFP players in technology. Im willing to wait and see, I think its looking interesting.
In Closing I will add what we have heard from Ubi about the PC version.
1. Being Developed by GRIN a Swedish company.
2. Will be more tactical and more like the Origanal GR than the console versions.
3. Will be released on PC-DVD Rom, Not on PC-CD Rom. (yep probably the first time you heard that, I will let you call me stupid and say that It will be released on both DVD and CD before I post my proof.)
