found that setting your desktop backgrond to none, and the graphics to low, has let me play the game with no problems, 20 FPS in cockpit, 45 FPS F3 view, as it took longer to load and switch between menus before.

    xp
    Watercooled
    Overclocked
    AMD atholon 2.21GHz
    Nvidia Geforce 3Ti200
    Memory 256MB

I can't see what difference having an image on your desktop will make to a game.

But hey, if it works, go for it.

Even if it doesen't work like that DLL trick, but somehow makes you think you got a better FPS, go for it.
