Suddenly UU won't start, says "Unable to download update file" | Forums

The following literally appeared out of the blue yesterday when launching Until Uru -- previously I've had no problems with UU & made no recent changes to my computer or software. One moment I was able to log onto the various shards normally... an hour later when launching UU again, the following immediately appeared:

"Uru Setup: Unable to download update file"

...and nothing further in the game will load.

So far I've...
- uninstalled UU
- uninstalled UABM
- manually cleaned out everything from the /Programs/Ubi Soft folder
- reinstalled UABM, then UU (installing both with no viruscan or anything else running)

I've also tried launching the game directly from the Uru - Ages Beyond Myst folder... UruExplorer.exe and UruSetup.exe give the same result: "Uru Setup: Unable to download update file."

No use.



Any ideas?

Dell 650 workstation
3.06GHz
2Gb
120Gbx2
Radeon 9800 Pro 256
Audigy II

No prior issues with UU in dozens of hours online.

tk, this means that you've failed to establish an internet connection to the primary Cyan authentication server. Was your broadband / dial-up link disabled for some reason?

I have the same problem and I've come to the same conclusion. I use 10mbps ethernet connection through my college network.

I have generated the error message deliberately by turning off my broadband gateway and then trying to connect to Until URU.

With what you did, I'm guessing that you receive the unable to download update file message almost instantly, same thing with me. I notice, however, that when I have my gateway turned on and I try the update, the "checking for updates message" stays on for almost an entire minute before I receive the unable to download message. I'm guessing the urusetup knows that I have an internet connetion and is making at least a partial connection to the cyan auth server, but for some reason it can't complete the connection and keeps retrying until it gives up a minute later.

I have my internet connection on & running normally before launching UU... it doesn't send so much as a byte upstream, just instantly displays the "Unable to download update file" message. It appears literally the instant I launch the program -- I don't get anything else displayed from the game but that message.

I checked the network traffic to and from my computer. You are right, it doesn't send any information at all. Mine just sits there for a minute doing nothing before showing the error message just to annoy me...grr!

I'm going to bed, I'll check up on things tomorrow. G`night!

If you can't ping the cyan authentication server, you can try a tracert to find out where the bottleneck is.

Does anyone know what its ip address is?
