Hello fellow Myst people, I can't get my game (myst) to work on windows 7. Can it work? Is there any way for it to work? Please help! Thanks
Welcome to the Forums!
Yes, you can indeed get Myst to work on Win 7!
Questions:
1. Have you tried installing Myst, and if so, what problems did you have? Details, please!
2. Which version of Myst do you have, the original on CD's or Myst Masterpiece Edition (MME) on DVD?
3. Which version of Win 7 are you running - Home Premium, Professional, or Ultimate?
4. Is your Win 7 32-bit or 64-bit?

Hello, Thanks for responding. Here are the answers to your questions. The install window pops up, but cd doesn't load, the screen goes blank. The game is Myst, and it's on one disc. That's all I can say. It's the 64 bit Home Premium version of Windows. I hope this info. is enough to help you. Thanks,
If Myst is on one disc, the disc is a DVD - not a CD. Is your disc drive a DVD player or burner?

Hello, It is a dvd player. When I told you about the screen going black when I click to start the myst download, it doesn't go black, the disc starts spinning , but doesn't load, and the screen stays the same, just without the myst download box.
That sounds like your drive isn't reading the MME DVD.
Can you see the files on the DVD using Windows Explorer? If not, what happens when you try? And have you recently had *any* problems reading other DVD's and/or installing other programs from a DVD? If so, please post details!
If you CAN see the files and have had NO DVD-related problems, please post a DxDiag report in this topic, so that we can take a look at your system.
1. To start the DirectX Diagnostic Tool (DxDiag):
-- a. Click on Start > Run, type dxdiag in the box, and click on OK.
-- b. Or, click on the blue Windows "orb and logo" at the lower left corner of the screen (on the bottom taskbar), type dxdiag in the Search box, and then press Enter.
2. Let the blue bar in the lower left corner of the Dxdiag window finish crawling and disappear.
3. Click on the Save All Information button.
4. Close the DxDiag utility. Now you have a DxDiag.txt file on your Desktop, or in the location where you saved it.
5. Copy *ALL* of the contents of this file to the Windows Clipboard.
-- a. Double-click on the file to open it.
-- b. Right-click anywhere in the text, then click on Select All in the resulting menu.
-- c. Right-click on the highlighted text, then click on Copy in the resulting menu.
6. Paste the contents of the file from the Clipboard into a new post in this topic.
-- a. Click on the yellow Reply arrow in the lower right corner of the screen.
-- b. With the mouse cursor at the upper left corner of the Quick Reply to: box, type in any additional late-breaking details that might help diagnose the problem.
-- c. Position the mouse cursor at the left margin and two lines down from any additional details, then right-click.
-- d. Click on Paste in the resulting menu.
-- e. Click on Post Now.
If the manufacturer and exact model number of your PC aren't shown under 'System Information' (System Manufacturer and System Model) at the top of the DxDiag report, also include that information in your post. Or, if you built your system or it was put together locally for you, include the manufacturer and exact model number of your motherboard.

Heimdall, I too need your help with MYST Masterpiece Edition DVD on my Windows 7 Home Premium system. It is unknown if I have 64- or 32-bits.
I have read the other threads and have tried the fixes, but still I experience the following problems:
The video messages in the BLUE and RED books in the library will not play. No audio or video.
The levers in the lighthouse can be pulled down but then the game completely crashes.
Per your suggestions on other treads:
MME is saved to my C: drive
All open applications are closed
Virus protection is disabled (game mode ON)
Fresh boot without DVD in drive
Program Compatibility changed to WIN98/ME
What else?
Welcome to the Forums, egthree!
Your problem may or may not be the same as zekeray2001's.
And what you're doing is known as "topic hijacking", that is stealing someone else's topic to solve your own particular problem.
This is a very definite violation of Forum protocol!
If you were anything but new to the Forums, that would get you a posting suspension of at least one week. But since you are new, let's allow some latitude.
Please start another topic in this Forum and detail your problem in the new topic. To start a new topic:
-- a. While logged into your Forum account, click on the New tab at the top of this page, then click on Discussion in the resulting drop-down menu.
-- b. Type a title into the Subject: box.
----- 1. DO NOT use "myst vs. windows 7" as a title!
-- c. Type a statement of your problem into the Message: box, plus as many details as possible - including but not limited to:
----- 1. Exactly what the problem is, and the exact wording of any associated error messages.
----- 2. Anything else that might help to diagnose your problem.
-- d. Click on Post Now.
All further responses to your problem will be in the new topic.

I hope this helps someone. The key to running Riven on windows 7-
64bit home version is installing Quicktime version 4.01.
I tried several versions of Quicktime, all with bad results.
Version 4.01 runs with no problems, it even solves the lock-up problems.
Make sure all other versions are uninstalled. Run the Riven compatable mode in Windows 2000.
In Quicktime settings set the Sound Out to wave-out. Man thats it- runs great!
Note: This refers to the Riven DVD from the MYST Trilogy edition.
