Thread: [Mac] realMYST Installer | Forums

  1. #1
This is an installer for realMYST that works on Mac OS 10.5 and 10.6.

    realMYST Installer (1.5 MB)

    Features:
    • Installs the latest version of the game as a single, self-contained application.
    • Excludes the logo images, which otherwise don't display on current systems and will just give you a black screen for a while.
    • Sets some hidden preferences to improve mouse and keyboard control.
    • Helps you to install CHUD which is used to disable processor cores, preventing hangs/crashes.

I've tried your installer with Myst III, and no problems at all with the install. The audio is still choppy though - do I need to do something to activate CHUD?

    I'm running MacOS 10.6.3 on a late 2007 15" Macbook Pro.

    Hi sofaman,
You can check if CHUD is installed by opening Terminal and typing this command:

    hwprefs cpu_count

This should tell the number of cpu cores you have. If it works then CHUD is installed properly and there shouldn't be any problems. If there are though, try disabling cores yourself by typing:

    hwprefs cpu_count=1

Then run Myst and see if it's any different. Let me know how you get on.

Thanks for that Gannet. No joy as yet - both commands gave me this error:
    <BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-title">quote:</div><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-content"> ERROR: unable to initialize CHUD.framework - Error #-11999 </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

which it seem reasonable to assume means the CHUD framework didn't install. Admittedly, I did install CHUD off of my original 10.5 install disk that came with the laptop, rather than my 10.6 install disk.

Is there somewhere I can download the latest version of CHUD?

Actually rather than just getting you to fix my problem, I'm going to try being more proactive now.

It seems to get the latest version of the CHUD tools that will work with 10.6, you need to sign up as an Apple Developer and download the entire Xcode install. I'm doing that now, and will let you know how I go once I've tried installing the tools.

The new version CHUD for 10.6 works! No more choppy audio! You rule dude, thanks.

The only headache is the amount of red tape required to download Xcode. But it is free, and it works, so I shouldn't complain too much.

Great to hear you got it working! If you look around the downloads at ADC you can also download just CHUD by itself. But why did you not try your 10.6 install disk? Everything is on there too

Because I couldn't find it, and figured that the disk that came with the computer would do just as well. Ah well.

The app jacket and chud installer worked perfectly with Myst III from the 10th anniversary set. Thanks!

Hi Gannet7 - This is related to your Myst IV installer, which I also downloaded. It worked like a charm for the first disk, but won't recognise the second disk when I install it. Any suggestions?
