    Hi Guys,

    While forums are still realatively quiet, now is the time to plan for the future...

    To try and keep the forums tidy, we are creating some dedicated "Community Discussion" threads for the main topics usually asssociated with the FC Franchise.
    This will either be done by new threads like this one, where at the inception I will try to capture a few "killer" posts from other threads, or we will just hijack an existing thread and change its title.

    If a stand alone thread is raised that could have been posted in one of these, the new thread is likely to be closed and the poster redirected to the correct place to have posted.

    supascoopa went around various Far Cry fan sites and compiled a list of peoples wants for Far Cry 3 - here is the section on vehicles.


    • Jet-packs, launch pads or anything that gets the player airborne.
    • Allow 10 vehicles or more for 16 players.
    • Faster interaction with vehicles & boats.
    • Player entering vehicle from passenger side is seated in unoccupied driver's seat - he needs to auto switch to drivers side like in the single player game.
    • Varied and more robust selection of water craft.
    • Vehicles need to be faster and more robust before taking damage.
    • Vehicles take various types of damage, like flat tire or dragging bumper, etc..
    • Boat prompt puts player in driver's seat, auto switching to drive would speed things up a lot.
    • Separate turret from driver in smaller boats to make it easier to enter/exit boat.
    • Keep paragliders, but allow player to shoot while flying.
    • Include quads, motorcycles, jet-skis & ATV's.
    • Allow for 'bunny-hopping' two-player vehicles to gain height for jumps.
    • Ramps for vehicle jumps.

    Right for those who are new to the Far Cry Experience and who started out on Far Cry 2 here is a trip down memory lane back to Instincts on Xbox 1 - Cuz and the PC gamers can go back even further and educate us console gamers on how it all started.


    We got 7 different vehicles on this game.


    ATV which takes a driver and passenger, also able to bunny hop when pressing the jump button.


    RMV Carries 4 (or was it 5 people) and has a gun turret.


    Patrol Boat - again 4 or 5 people and a gun at the front, this was one of the fastest on water when it reached top speed


    Glider - fun to fly and handles well


    Inflatable Boat - carries 4 people I think


    Hovercraft - 1 driver and 1 gunner


    Jetski - 1 driver and 1 passenger

    The 2 top vehicles for me were the Jetski on water and the ATV on land, the fact that they carried a passenger and were both fast made them no.1 choice for me.

    After Instincts came Evolution and Predator - Xbox1 and 360 - Predator had both Instincts and Evolution stories combined on the 1 disc, these also gave us new vehicles weapons and multiplayer maps.



    Far Cry Evolution (Xbox) and Predator (360) both released in 2006, they had the vehicles from Instincts plus three more choices which were the following.


    Sampan - carries 4 and has a gun at the front


    Transport Truck - I always thought this could carry 6 in the back and 2 in the front, it was weak and sluggish but was an amazing battering ram for knocking all other land vehicles out of the way


    Pick Up Truck - 4 or 5 players (its so long ago I cant remember) This has a mortar on the back and causes mass destruction, a vehicle of choice along with the ATV

    Then came Far Cry 2 - Oh Dear the vehicles in multiplayer were few unfortunately.



    Buggy - 1 player, seems fast but bursts into flames and breaks down too quickly, sluggish handling


    Car = This was my choice from the vehicles on offer when on land.


    JEEP LIBERTY


    ASSAULT TRUCK


    Glider


    FISHING BOAT - slow and numb and no use at all in multiplayer


    SWAMP BOAT - This looked great and was fun to drive but it was clumsy getting on and off

    DLC Vehicles from the Fortunes Map Pack

    Quad - 1 player only and no jump / bunny hop - a fast vehicle with erratic handling, good but not in the same league as the ATV from Instincts.


    Unimog
    Looks good but very slow - not a lot of use


    TRANSPORT TRUCK (single player game)

    Sorry to be so brutal but 2 water based vehicles was just not good enough, especially with the fishing boat been so slow - The land vehicles is a much better choice but every one breaks down far too easy and they either damage or explode, another fault is how they get stuck on the smallest of rocks & trying to push them out of the way is extremely difficult.

    I think the vehicles worked very well in singleplayer as it was big and open and the pace was not as frantic but in multiplayer they let the game down big time and forced a lot of map makers to make smaller maps because 6 vehicles was just not enough to get around, the fact that they were often slow to get in and out and the transition and pressing of buttons did not help in faster paced user made maps.

    For anyone that is interested or who wants to see how the vehicles used to be on the first Far Cry game on consoles I made a video.

    Far Cry Instincts Predator Vehicles
    As you can see from the video it was all fast and furious, instant switching between vehicle and gun turrets.
    Instant exit and access to vehicles
    They handled well and were fast
    We also got 12 vehicles to use in the map editor for our maps.
    Players could shoot while driving or drop pipe bombs grenades or Molotov from the glider while flying.

    And you can see how easy and accurate the glider was - oh dear the glider in FC2 was like a building brick.

    I will say that if they can give us vehicles half as good as those from the video then Far Cry 3 will be one hell of a game.

    I think that the mounted guns on the vehicles, (assuming that there are going to be) should gyro, because killing someone using the turret was too tricky. For example; in previous games when the vehicle turned, the gun would turn with it, completely throwing your aim off. It should stay aimed in the same direction even when the vehicle turns.

    If you were on a turret while someone was driving, you may as well have kissed your butt goodbye. But IDK, the vehicles of FC2 weren't that bad. It did balance out how many could get to one side of the map to the other, instead of the entire team in 1 or 2 vehicles. If you're gonna bring back the amount of players that can fit in a vehicle, no prob. But to keep it balanced I'd reeeally like to bring in more players in a room as a result.

    Additionally, I'm looking forward to hitching a ride on a boat and not magically being run over-ed by it. Also, can I not be a sitting duck whenever I'm driving on water please? At least let me dodge while sitting in the seat or something D8

    i loved the two cars that apeared in the demo !
    and i also loved the cars that lambchop put.
    but for more amazement put alot more cars than the usual so we don't get bored. especially co-op based cars with turrets and choppers with turrets but not jets.

    -make cars faster.
    -do not remove the ( getting in the car -animations from fc2 )dont make it just POOF YOUR IN THE CAR!
    -when you get out of a fast car you roll on the ground *animation* to make it look realistic!
    -CAR EXPLOSIONS BIGGER!
    -make a car handle more damage!

    I guess I stand alone when I say I only want ground and water Vehicles, By the look of things FC3 looks really dense and I like that enclosed feeling that I could stumble onto anything at anything time, not knowing what lurks behind the bushes. I think Flying could really ruin this i'm not even a fan of the gilder. But that's just me!

    o0Kman0o when you say that you are not a fan of the glider are you referring to all the Far Cry games or have you only tried it on FC2 because honestly the Glider in FC2 is a disgrace to fly compared to the other games.

    Also are you talking single player campaign or multi-player because user created maps can be put together so that the glider can be up high on an area where you could fly over a whole Island with specific areas to land.

    Where the single player in FC2 was difficult to navigate with the glider but it's bad handling also did not help - the glider was an amazing vehicle on FC Instincts because it is silent and could catch pockets of air allowing the player to circle around and gain height by pulling back on the stick - it was also accurate to land very close to your target (as shown in that video)

    One thing I hated with FC2 vehicles was the amount which were the same except different weapons - plus the way the screen shakes with every shot from one of the heavy hitting turrets, that was really annoying after a while.

    <span class="ev_code_RED">FC2 Vehicle Tweaks</span>
    All they had to do was allow vehicles to take a little more damage and increase the speed - those that do not want to go fast could just hold back on the throttle a bit but believe me on a user created map that takes up the full grid squares - you really don't want to spend most of the match getting out and fixing the vehicle to find that when you get there the timer is ticking down to the end of the match.

    Also to increase the number from 6 - 10 or even 12 would have made all the difference for the multiplayer side of the game.

    I hear about the animations and people liking them, but did you know that in FC2 in single player you enter the vehicle from any door and you are put straight into the drivers seat, plus the vehicles handle bumps and jumps better on the road - where in multiplayer entering a door to the passenger seat or rear of the vehicle would leave you sat in that seat with yet another button to press to switch places and the vehicle takes less damage and blows up easier in multiplayer - as if it were a different team that did the 2 parts of the game.

    WoW thanks razorfinnish for the stats, there's no wonder why I choose the car as my vehicle of choice - it's the fastest according to those figures.

    I understand that you guys can mod the speed and stuff on the vehicles with the PC, can you say what people comment on if speed is increased and damage is less frequent - Is it more of a fun game, also you can have more than 6 vehicles with the mod can't you?

    I also wanted to add this in, myself and supascoopa bounce ideas around and he came up with it, makes a lot of sense also.
