GR will not run in windows 2000 | Forums

I am having trouble getting GR to run in windows 2000. I have installed the 1.3 and 1.4 updates. However, when I try to run GR the logo appears on the screen, as if it were about to start the game, the cd rom begins to spin, but then the logo dissapears and nothing happens. The game doesn't run. Can anyone help?

PS. I would post my system stats, but I do not know where to find that info on my pc.

Here you go buddy please post your dxdiag. Can you also tell us what CD's of the game you have . Was it a box set? Was it a bundle with a graphics card?

start/run/ type in dxdiag click ok/ when it has finished loading/system tab/ down the bottom click SAVE ALL INFORMATIOM to desktop/copy and paste that in the forums.

Copy/Paste

You may know how to do this already, so overlook it if you do.

To copy/paste left click the left mouse button and while holding the left mouse button down drag it to the left then up the page until every word is highlighted. Then on any part of the highlighted words right click and a little window pops up and with the left mouse button click COPY.

Now come to the forums and place your thread for your problem and in the white space, right click the mouse button and another small window pops up. With the left mouse button click the word PASTE and your dxdiag is copy/pasted

Also,

The CD I have is just a sinlge cd. It did not come in a box set. As a matter of fact, I think it was a Ubi Soft reissue. I bought the cd for like $20 at Fry's Electronics and from what they told me GR didn't used to run with WIN 2K. The version of GR I have, again, from what they told me, is supposed to be the one that works with WIN 2k.

Up grade your drivers for graphics card and sound card and you only have 16MB of graphic memory which is the minimal for this game. Also follow the below and then if things work ok increase your settings.

Lower Graphics Settings

Start the game and click "options" then click the "gameplay" tab. Switch off show intro movie/show dead bodies/record games

Now click the "graphics tab and make sure your screen "RES" is set to ( Add Res Here ) and the Z-Buffer Depth is set to 16 bit.

Turn Mipmap off and make vehicle shadows none and human shadows low lod. Turn maximum bullets down to 1

Also GR runs better if your desktop "RES" is also set and matches the game "RES".

You may wish to lower other graphic settings to medium but do the above first and try it before lowering to many graphic settings.

Also try move your swapfile from to another drive. You're low on memory on your c-drive.

Then run a scandisk and a defrag.

I use Windows 2000, and haven't had any trouble with the game. However, a friend did, and he finally figured out he was playing as a user without admin privileges. I don't know if that applies in your case.
