Given the fact the deck gun is gyro-stabilized in any sea state, think of it as slop for the fact it should be maybe 20X harder to shoot the deck gun from a rolling, pitching deck.
IMO, anyway.
BTW, I've found that when trying to sink a 5000 ton ship by poking 3 or 4 inch holes in it, you need to wait a while for it to sink. Think about the tiny holes you are making. If they are right near the waterline, they are in the drink maybe half the time or less...
