I think I remember myself commenting on the Plymouth Superbird before when someone pointed out the big wing, or something, where I agreed that it was useless and ugly.

Well, I still stick by the ugly assessment, but apparently this wing isn't useless like the new junk these kids are putting on their cars. Apparently Plymouth needed to disguise two big vertical fins for lateral stability at high speed as a big wing. Basically, stop paying attention to the top part, it's not particularly there for downforce during braking or anything like that, although they say it is adjustable, the main reason for that wing is for the big fins on the side. So pay attention to the shape of the side "supports."



Notice how they are shaped like big fins like the tail of an aircraft? Yep, that's really their purpose, for stability at high speeds so the rear-end would not come loose and lose traction.

Oh, and the reverse air scoop on the front fenders were there for aerodynamics in stock car racing, but back then, in order for a feature to be used in the race cars, they must be present in the stock street version sold to regular people as well, so there they are...

Eh, despite how ugly I think this car is, apparently this car can be worth a lot of money if an all original one is in good condition, and it's supposed to be quite fast for its time as well...

i dont know if it is the picture or me , but on the second picture the blue plymouth looks like it had the front suspension lower then the rear are they Front wheel base cars or rear?

Reminds me of the Jetsons. I'd probably get the same kind of kick out of driving one that I'd get from driving the Oscar Mayer weiner mobile, but no, I wouldn't want one.

Gold, considering the Superbird aka Road Runner had 390bhp and 490 lb-ft torque from a V8, I would say it is definitely a rear-wheel platform and not a front-wheel drive system.
