This won't sound construuctive, but if the game hangs for 20-25 mins thats not likely an issue with the game.
That's an issue with your Windows install or hardware or drivers
next time it does it (this is for windows 7) XP was a different path but should be similar
Goto the control panel, click on Adminstrative tools, and event viewer logs
most errors create a log, and are displayed in there, provided the system doesn't totally lock up requiring a hard reboot
Application not responding error is unfortunately a windows issues (all versions) if the programme doesn't do it's thing quick enough Windows kicks up a fuss and reports it as having "Not Responded"
which in turn crashes explorer briefly
Without seeing it in action it's too hard to tell what the issue is.
Same issue as above. Just installed the new patch (1.5?). Tried everything. It takes forever to load (literally 10 mins), and when it finally does, I cant play anything. Hangs after about 10 secs into a skirmish. Worked beautifully in previous version. Also running with an intel quad core Q6600. some help would be greatly appreciated.
I mean 1.07 patch.
Hi Friend,
To save you time. Verify if your memory modules are dirt. Clean them with a eraser.
After this you format your pc and reinstall with Windows 7 64 bits.
Make a memory test using memtest. And verify you cpu temperature.
Make stress tests on cpu to verify stability.
If this do not solve, maybe a driver error. Is recommended to update your device drivers.

Has anyone found a solution to this problem? I recently bought the settlers 7 and I too am running Q6600 with Radeon HD 5770. When I click the PLAY button the screen just goes dark and if I open the task manager it says "The Settlers 7...not repsonding"
I have the exact same problem, All my drivers are up to date, I have tried older drivers for GFX too, I have rebuilt system and cleaned everything too.

I played for more than a year, then one morning my router had quit working. I went to my ISP rep and he gave me an "upgrade" router, which was just a newer model of the old one. When I tried to start the game, is was as described in the post that started this thread. I took 10 or 20 minutes for the game to start. Then I would get a message that S7 was not responding. If I waited long enough it would cycle through 3 states: not responding, connecting, and OFFLINE ( and S7 has no offline mode).
I tried everything I could think of but in the end it was the router. When I got a router made by a different company, the game worked again. And just to check, I got the old router back and tried again and sure enough it did not work.
The routers that didn't work were made by Netcomm (Austrailian Company). The router I have now is made by ZTE (Chinese).
So this may not be your problem but you can see how difficult it is to find a solution.
