what is preventing me from starting the sequence,ie, learning to defend my self against the opponent at the opposite side of the circle. As no matter what I try all I can seem to be able to do is turn Left, Right, or About turn, I cannot move forward, back, free run, speak,I seem to be frozen. This is the second attempt, the first one ended up the same. I now have two two people called Desmond, stuck in the same small arena, but in different time periods.
IS THERE A LIFE SAVER OUT THERE THAT CAN EXPLAIN TO ME HOW I CAN RESOLVE THIS DILEMMA.

Well theres 2 options... either, its a bug.
Or you've forgot that when you are locked to a target.. Ezio will always face his opponents.

so to run away you need to delock your enemy.. otherwise, you can block all enemies by holding right click (pc) except the bruits and seakers.. there you have to press space right before they hit you, and you will dogde their attack.

The thing about two desmonds i didn't get..
