Try turning the "gamma" setting up in your graphics card setting slightly, sounds like you have it set too low.

I have a Radeon 9600 but it should be the same. Right click on a blank place of your desktop. Click properties, settings, advanced, then color. You will have gamma, brightness and contrast sliders there to play with.

Bit of a long shot but are you using the most up to date drivers for your card? I know from past experience that certain video cards need an update before they will alter certain variables.

The gamma on your monitor might be on its way out. Was on my old monitor so everything was to dark. However, this current monitor is fine, however, it is still dark when out to sea. But thats how its suppose to be. Ever been on a ship at night. I have with lights on deck you can see about a few meters from the side of the ship. They have all lights out though on the sub but still wouldn't be able to see that far.

Just use the hydrophone to listen in on the location of the ship. Then use the binos and look in that direct. When the cross hair turns red, your over ship. I guess do manual targeting would be harder although i've never tried, to complicated for me. But you can lock the periscope on target so should be slightly easier.

Its also why the enemy fire Star Shells up when they think your in the area. Did that to me on my last patrol 'cause they couldn't see s h i t, didn't help them though 'cause I had already dived

Wow never thought of using the hydrophone, thanks! Honestly I was about to repost saying " How could they see at night anyway? "
