Thread: New Driver vs Midnight Club LA vs Burnout Paradise vs TDU2... | Forums

New Driver vs Midnight Club LA vs Burnout Paradise vs Test Drive Unlimited 2, GTA4...

So what will make any of these open city racers/driving games more fun than the other?

This is just speculation, as not every game has been confirmed or released yet:

-Size of city/terrain (TDU2 has the likely lead)
    -Amount of Vehicles (?)
-Licensed Vehicles (MCLA and TDU2 licensed)
-Sportbikes AND vehicles (Driver, TDU2, MCLA)
    -On Foot (Driver)
    -Day/night cycle (Driver, MCLA)
-Customization of vehicles (MCLA leads IMO)
    -Fastest speed (MCLA)
    -Best crashes (Burnout Paradise)
    -Best Races/Chases (?)
    -Interior Dash View (TDU2, MCLA)
    -Most gameplay options (TDU2, MCLA)
    -Best Controls (?)
    -Most realistic driving physics (Driver)
    -Best locations, terrain variety (?)
    -Offroad Access (TDU2, Driver, MCLA?)
    -Other criteria...

I'll be buying every game but Burnout Paradise, since it lacks sportbikes, my favorite transportation next to sportcars.

Feel free to discuss this competitive OPEN CITY RACING genre in this thread, and what features you're anticipating most.

Driver SF2, include: Everything from DSF and... More freedom to explore: Open Parking Lots, Offroad hills, forests, bring us into a Rural Setting, customizable options, lots of RAMPS again and corkscrew wooden bridges across ponds, Sportbikes too. And please lose the lame roadside rails, so we can REALLY go off road and fly off without hitting invisible walls.

What about Grand Theft Auto? I don't mean to be a nudge, but it could work out as another option.

Good point. I'm looking forward to GTA4, and hopefully, they make the driving more realistic as I'm guessing they will. Just that in GTASA and previous games, the driving seemed a bit cartoony.

I'm going to likely buy an Xbox 360 soon, right after I've gotten the money to buy one. Afterwards, I hope to buy the top 10 best Xbox 360 games while renting the rest of the important 360 games to look at through GameFly, so if any of these games stumble upon the top 10, which I see as most likely for GTA IV, I'll be sure to buy those games that make it on the list.

Hey AssaultMachine! Great to see you visit again, even if it's once in awhile, you've had some really great ideas for the Driver series that NEED to be in the next Driver.

First Hand Experience with the 360:
The 360 has some awesome online features, multiplayer and especially the marketplace, which can be accessed free of charge with a default Silver membership when you buy a 360. Definitely get a Hard Drive if you want to download demos, game content DLCs, etc, as I'm sure you've already researched on your own.

Just a note, I've had to send my 360 in just 7 months after buying it new 12/26/06. It's an awesome console, but it needs to be kept cool to avoid the Red Rings of Death. I had it running in an 80 degree room, hours each day. Microsoft paid for everything, free of charge, including shipping to and from their facility. Only problem, they sent me back a refurbished console, not the one I bought, which p!ssed me off, since I had to reload my downloads in Account History. New console is working good so far despite a few "read errors" when it gets too hot, even though I have a fan blowing air at it.

Currently own: Test Drive Unlimited, Crackdown, Just Cause, Dead Rising, Oblivion, Earth Defense Force. Favorite game is TDU and Oblivion, then DR, JC, EDF and CD. Already traded in Transformers and SpiderMan 3, both mistakes to buy IMO, just decent games at best. WILL be buying GTA4, Gears of War, Midnight Club LA, Mass Effect, Fallout 3, PGR4, TDU2, Driver, etc in 2007/2008.

Have plenty of Xbox Live Arcade games, Pac Man Championship Edition, Ms. Pac Man, Streets of Rage 2, Double Dragon Arcade, Golden Axe Arcade and plenty of free demos.

Thank you, InsaneDriver06. It's true that I've had some really great and helpful ideas for the Driver franchise, which I hope will make their appearance in the future Driver games.

As for an Xbox 360, I'm trying to make as much money each week as possible, working with my dad whenever I have time and hopefully, by Christmas, I will have enough money for everything that I could possibly need. I'll most likely be getting the following:

    - An Xbox 360 Pro, which costs currently $349.99 and not the Elite since I won't be spending that much time on other things than video games.

    - A copy of Halo 3, the standard price of the game, at $59.99

    - An Xbox Live Gold Membership

    - A rechargable battery pack for an Xbox 360 controller.

    - An Xbox 360 Play and Charge Kit

    - Maybe 1 other wireless 360 controller

    - A wireless Xbox 360 headset (selling the wired one that was included in my 360 bundle)

    - Xbox 360 Live Messenger Kit (selling the wired headset that is included)

    - Xbox 360 Live Marketplace Points 1600 (to spend on some of the best downloadable content and even for other things like an arcade game or a T.V. show.

    - An ethernet cable to plug my 360 to a computer of mine

    - a 1-year subscription to GameFly, for being able to rent various kind of games, mainly the top 200, based on the ratings of Game Rankings.

This is all that I hope to get for Christmas.

Sounds like a good 360 set up. It's a great system when its operating normally. The PS2, PS1 also had their share of problems.

Yeah, that's one thing I really liked about Driver PL; it's the fastest Driver game made, something many "slo-motion" fans of Driver 2 didn't like the reaction time requirements of, considering Driver 2 on the PS1 practically played in slow motion due to the PS1 engine's limits and the design of the game. Nice video.
