Thread: How is the strategic AI in the release version? | Forums

After playing the demo, I was impressed overall with the quality of the game, but the SAI was extremely poor. Has this been addressed in the release version of the game?

For reference, I'm a Heroes veteran of the previous games, I most enjoyed 2 and 3, and I don't enjoy multiplayer online (only hotseat/lan with friends).

I'm not interested in buying it if the AI can't put up any sort of map while playing skirmish on the various maps. So how is it now?

Its pretty poor imo, thought it makes some brilliant moves sometimes.

I would say it is around the same as in heroes 3.

It was totally impossible to say anything about the ai in the demo as the maps aviable was campaign maps and a SP map (all filled with special rules for the ai to follow.)

It's average to below-average in the current version. The major trouble is that it gets so massive bonuses and boosts even on normal difficulty that it spoils the fun a little. I thought that the AI in HoMM5 played a bit smarter and didn't make the boosts so obvious (on lower difficulties). I hope that this will be improved in patches. The game's fun and there is huge potential, but the AI is one of its biggest shortcomings right now. Lack of map editor, maps and RMG are others.

Did you mean to write HoMM3?

Yes, sorry. The AI in HoMM3 was better than in HoMM5. It wasn't that brilliant either, but playing against it was still fun and not as frustrating as in HoMM5.

Thanks for the replies, think I'll pass on this game for the moment. Without at least decent SAI, I won't really be able to enjoy the skirmish game, which is most of the fun of HoMM for me.

WTF are you talking about, on normal difficulty the player has the advantage in resources not the computer!

WTF are you talking about? It's been reported many times that the AI gets massive resource cheats even on Normal.
