Thread: win 2000 ch gameport | Forums

I've read the info re gameports not recogised in xp and vista. I've just installed win 2000 on a separate hdd so I could use my gameport Ch fighterstick and rudder pedals, so I hoped. I can get no joy even after installing the ch drivers off the website. The stick is only recognised as a 4 button stick, and the rudder pedals not at all (the stick plugs into the pedals and the pedals into the gameport). Clearly this stick worked once with some or other version of windows. Do I need windows 98? in which case I doubt IL2 1946 will run well on the 512 meg of RAM that OS supports, or has anyone oput there got a gameport set up working in win 2000? If so which soundcard are you using for the gameport? Is my gameport -on a creative soundblaster live the problem somehow?

I am using my Ch Pro pedals on Gameport in Windows XP.These are teamed with a Logitech Wingman Force. I am quite sure you can use Gameport on Xp ,I just am not sure of how many axes you can use.Try these drivers

I don't think you can program any functions through the keyboard port on any NT based windows though.
I will dig around and see what else I can find, but this is all from a while ago.

    with this http://www.lbodnar.dsl.pipex.com/joystick/

you can convert both stick and pedals to real USB and move towards the future.

I just finished a Thrustmaster conversion - it works great.

thanks for replying. that device seems really interesting and could be the answer. Can you tell me more about how to use it? do you need to do any soldering? sorry if I'm being thick, but how do I plug the gameport plug from the joystick or pedals as I can't see anything in the picture that looks like a suitable socket. In fact the device looks like it has a usb socket not a plug. I'd really appreciate some more info please!
    thanks

That is a control board, you would take all the wires from the potentiometers and buttons and run them to this board instead of the one in the stick, thus converting it from a gameport stick to a USB stick. I believe Leo does make a version that does not need soldering.
"The basis of our governments being the opinion of the people, the very first object should be to keep that right; and were it left to me to decide whether we should have a government without newspapers, or newspapers without a government, I should not hesitate a moment to prefer the latter.[Europe], under pretence of governing they have divided their nations into two classes, wolves and sheep. If once [the people] become inattentive to the public affairs, you and I, and Congress, and Assemblies, judges and governors shall all become wolves. " - Thomas Jefferson

thanks for that. I've since checked and he does indeed make one that does not need soldering. I've emailed him on his site. My next question will be: how would I know which wire goes where? Hopefully I'll get some answers. Sounds like an exciting project but a bit daunting.
