Thread: [Mac] Myst III Universal Installer | Forums

  1. #21
    Hi tduke,
In OS 10.7 and onwards, the user library folder is hidden. To access it, hold down option while clicking on the Go menu in the Finder and the Library item should appear.
(The link to the Saved Games folder inside the application package works only while the application is running.)

Ah, turns out I was looking in the wrong library folder - I was looking in the Macintosh HD/Library folder instead of the user level folder. Found the save files. Cheers!

Oh, never mind, I completely skipped page 2 where my question was answered.

    Unhappy m3r error: $M3dat\RSRC.m3r

So, first things first: Thank you very much for putting obviously so much time in creating a solution to play Myst on 10.7. Today I tried the installation on my Mountain Lion (10.8). I didn't have the CDs anymore, but I kept their content because I used the other method until it didn't work anymore which needed the four discs in the same folder as the application. So I created four .cdr-disk images with the names and contents of each CD and your installation file went through smoothly. But when I try to launch the game, I get following error message after a few seconds and screen adjustments:
    Code:
    m3r error: $M3dat\RSRC.m3r
I just get the option to click OK.
After some more screen adjustments and a few seconds I get following message:

    Code:
    Exception raised
Unhandled privileged instruction at address 0x94458740.
Do you wish to debug it ?
    Yes/No
For those who didn't understand what I tried to show with the underlinings: My two options are Yes and No.
If I click "Yes", the application quits (without any error messages) after a few seconds; if I click "No", the application quits immediately, again without any error messages.
Is there any solution for this? I was really happy to see there finally is a solution to get Myst III Exile working on my mac; I'm a great fan of the game and really want to play it again. I'd be very grateful if this finds any attention and even more grateful if there is any solution
    Greetings from Germany!

    Hi Jannis
It sounds like it can't find the RSRC.m3r file. Right-click on the app and choose "Show package contents", then navigate to Contents/Resources/M3Data and see if the file is in there. If it isn't, see if you can find it somewhere in the contents of your CDs and copy it in there.

    Thanks for your fast answer.
I forgot to mention that I of course tried all that. The file isn't either in the package nor on my backups of the CDs. Strange, because I played the game several times through with the old method which means it should work just fine. Can someone maybe upload that file somewhere so I can integrate it?

    Exclamation Location of "RSRC.m3r" File

On my Mac, the "RSRC.m3r" document is hidden, inside the hidden folder "M3Data," inside my "Myst III Exile" folder. I used "Show Hide Invisible Files" v1.6 to see the file.

Could have thought about that for myself. Found it, integrated it in the right folder and it's working now, thank you very much. But I don't have any ingame-sound. And am I allowed to change the ingame spoken language? I am aware that subtitles have to be turned off, that is the reason I'd like to have the ingame speech language on my native language (german).

There is almost nothing in the "M3Data" folder in the application except
    Code:
    OVER101.m3o
    RSRC.m3r
    TEXT
    while the folder TEXT includes
    Code:
    ENGLISH.m3t
    language.m3u
Should I just import the complete "M3Data" folder wich includes the folders
    Code:
    COMM
    EN_M
    EN_T
    ENCH
    ENDD
    ENEM
    ENLC
    ENLI
    ENPP
    ENSI
    HOLO
    LEIS
    LEMT
    LEOF
    LEOS
    LI_M
    LI_T
    LIDR
    LIFO
    LISP
    LISW
    MA_M
    MA_T
    MACA
    MAIS
    MALL
    MASS
    MATO
    MAWW
    NA_M
    NA_S
    NACH
    OVER101.m3o
    RSRC.m3r
    TEXT
    TOHB
    TOHO
into the application? It seems they include the game sounds.
