Thread: plot of haze? | Forums

From the trailer it looked like you didnt like mantle corps, ya know shooting all the tvs and ditching your gear, but all the screens show you working with some mantle corps troops. so my question would be: are you rebeling against mantle like the trailer would imply or are you working for them?

Looks like you start out working for them and then... who knows? Maybe you get to choose which side you fight on. That would be a very interesting idea, but I would imagine it's hard to implement two story threads in one game. More likely the story changes as you play, but I wouldn't like to speculate too much on how it changes for fear of spoiling it.

    It sounds intriguing anyway.

well they already said you were apart of mantel corp. and mantel corp. uses nectar which is a drug that makes you fight harder or something like that so when he tears of his gear its like he uses all of the nectar or something.....

I think that's more a representation of the guy's anger with being lied to/manipulated by Mantel, although in what way he's been used is not clear. It's not clear either what the real purpose of the drug is, or how it links in to the title: Haze.

A great FPS doesn't need a story line. FEAR, I thought, didn't have a great story but I still liked it.

It's not the storyline that matters in FPS, as you say, but the scenario. That can set up quite a few things but an overall plot does help in forming the scenario in the first place.

The storyline of 'splitters isn't complex or very developed, but the scenario (time-travel) sets up everything else in the game.

Haze' scenario/plot seems a little more complex than the above, but it doesn't necessarily need lots of plot and story exposition.

True a story isnt important, but without a story the game just changes into a generic FPS. Like Halo, that game sold a lot and people loved it but without the story it would just be like every other FPS. Unless you create somthing really new and special then the game is kinda boring without a plot.

i agree with AKpress . . . although an FPS can be fun without a proper plot and storyline, it eventually just turns into "kill this kill that why am i doing this". i find a decent storyline helps you get into the game more, and also puts you in the right mood for the game itself.for instance, what if halflife2 didnt have a story line, it would just be a bloke with a shotgun walking around shooting guys in funny suitsofarmor and wierd zombie things. not as good as the storyline makes it in real life.

When a man knows he is going to die, the impossible doesn't seem so hard.

I really doubt they'd have multiple plot lines, that would be pretty hard to do. I just basically expect that the whole game will be full of anti-war messages, such as the propaganda that armies use to recruit soldiers.

I think the point of the title Haze is just that everything is unclear, like you have in your definition, "lack of transparency".
Hmm, I'm not convinced the story is that important really.
