Thread: New Rise of Flight blog update | Forums

Can someone play a random old track of theirs and see if they get the same ctd as I get? All of mine appear to be unplayable. I noticed the new patch arranged them all alphabetically, too. New track recorded no probs. I think the balloon winching down needs some work in the animation department.

You think the eindekker's bad, Mr West? Wait 'till you get a Taube... It's got a lower ceiling than Grandma Flyer's bungalow...

However, the Eastbourne Aviation Company 1913 monoplane is a pleasure to potter about in...

    Oops! Wrong sim.

L-F, I played some old tracks last night, mainly because I'm experimenting with post effects. Did not get any ctd's. Could this be a mods thing? I don't think I've ever recorded anything with mods on so could this be a possible conflict?

It sems to affect Noops and Pups - which after the last patch mysreriously sported rockets on tracks recorded before rockets were available. Other old tracks seems o.k. - mods on or off. Not the end of the world, but annoying as I used a Pup track to test tweaks. Ho-hum.

    Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!!

    Nearly out of my system...

Having trouble identifying this little beauty - I think it's a DeHavilland, but not sure...any ideas?

DeHavilland certainly. Quite possibly a Beevor. Certainly tilts my Lewis anyway.

Crash and burn, burn and crash... how do you flippin' land these crates? I know all landings are "controlled crashes" but jeeze louise! Arrrgh!!!

What's your bird of choice, Worf? I found the SE5a relatively easy to get up and down, and really do like the N28. Long and low final approaches, into the wind if possible, cut the engine as soon as you start rolling along the ground - if not before.

Still need to practice in the DH2 - drops like a stone at the most inopportune moments...

Yes, the N.28 is one of the easier planes to land - wouldn't try this in a Dr.1:

Got a little close to the trees for comfort, but made it. Even had room to turn around and take off again...

...which was a mistake. I was on the new Syndergarten server, and had just been messing round while I waited to see if anyone else fancied a little one-on-one fun. Unluckily for me it was =69.GIAP=TUSHKA who appeared, in his Fokker D.VII. He soon had me back down amongst the rooftops of Lille:

We dodged and weaved amongst the chimneys, my TrackIR working overtime as I tried to keep my eye on him and avoid hitting anything. He briefly lost sight of me, which gave me a chance to get a snap shot of him as he climbed to spot me, but the result was inevitable.

I may see if I can make a video of the rooftop chase - screenshots don't do it proper justice. If I do, I'll post it on the RoF forum.

As with any rotary, you will need to use the blip switch to land, or cut the engine beforehand (quite common historically, apparently), but the N.28 doesn't have the groundlooping tendencies of many other RoF aircraft. As LF says, the S.E.5A is another good one - or try the Pfalz D.III - with it's ridiculously low stall speed, you can land tailskid down first, though I'd not recommend it as normal practice.

Well I've just had a go of the Spad and it landed ok, bit of a ground loop but stayed on its wheels. There are some interesting torque effects and throttle setting has a big bearing on which way it likes to turn, these things are going to take a little getting used to.
New game means hours setting up a new joystick profile too....
