Thread: Naval Warfare? | Forums

  1. #1
First i'd like to say that i'm new to these forums and i hope i'm not double-threading something, but i didn't see any topic like this.

Anyway i was wondering if you would have to deal with logistics such as supply convoys, or if for example you were playing as the russians and wanted to invade the US east coast, would you have to load your men on ships and sail across the atlantic, if so then could the US send a carrier group or something to intercept the invasion fleet?

I was just wondering if Naval Warfare will play a significant role if any in this game.

From what I've seen and read, I'd have to say no to any naval warfare aspect, cool as that maybe, seems to be strictly LAS (Land Air Space) warfare...maybe for a sequal

I wish they would include naval warfare, but sadly I don't think they will even though it is SO much a part of the "no magic" delivery of units. They talk of how there will be no base building, anything that will be delivered to the battlefield will be done realistically via helos and heavy transport aircraft. That being said I think it would show some pretty awesome detail to strategy IF they included naval warfare.

There are also some very interesting cutting edge naval technologies that are being pursued.

An example is the Pelican ULTRA wing in ground effect transport aircraft

For littoral warfare involving spec ops there's a design made by Lockheed Martin called the CHARC.

Not to forget also the DD-21 equipped with an electromagnetic railgun and lasers to shoot down pesky anti ship missiles.

Also it would add strategy as you mentioned regarding logistics because like the Germans tried with their U-boats in WW2, so would the Russians try to prevent supplies coming into Europe by cutting what are called the SLOC's or Sea Lines of Communication (naval supply routes).

that picture of the pelican doesn't show how big it really is, here is a picture comparing it to a 747

I don't think they will have naval combat, or even logistics (at least not logistics on that scale, I hope that you have to deal with logistics in the battles you fight) because unlike other RTS games in this you don't rule your country, you don't even command the entire military, you only have your 12 groups, shipping our supplies across the sea is someone else's job

I agree with you guys I think they are going to scrap the naval warefare idea. Kind of a shame considering naval power could be used as not only transport, but also as fire support. Calling in close support aircraft, Tomahawks etc. All of which could be interesting tools in battles.

well there is still hope yet. if u look at the global battle map screenie where it says us attacking paris etc. off the coast of demark there are silouttes of blue ships so maybe just maybe there is a naval aspect.

Cool as it'll be, todays current-gen hardware cannot process that. Maybe next-gen?
