Thread: Why Rainbow 6 Vegas Will Stay #2, Gears of War #1 | Forums

  1. #1
This is not a R6 hate thread, let me get clear first off that i think Gears of War should be ranked FAR below Rainbow Six. I'm just here stating a few facts. This was inspired by reading the news that GoW is getting yet ANOTHER 4 maps, released via DLC:

Rainbow Six Vegas had SO much potential to be the number 1 online game, and to sell a ton more copies. It's so unfortunate that due to their lack of support, missed release dates, and a slow DLC push, they will stay number 2 most played on XBL, and quickly fall down the list when Forza is released.

One of the reasons Gears of War is so popular, aside from its massive ad campaigns, is that their community is CONSTANTLY getting updated on whats going on, what the devs are working on, And their steady and constant releases of needed AU's and DLC. Rainbow Six just doesn't have this support.

I haven't been following GoW much, but from what I've heard and seen from people that have both games, R6 has much more longevity and replayability, and a better multiplayer game in general. But, the difference is, Epic is HUNGRY, their team has a drive to make more content and get a good reputation by satisfying their customers and continuously giving them something NEW and FRESH.

Now, we don't know WHAT Ubi is doing, since they update us what, once a month? Goliath disappeared, and they seem to just be casually doing things with the game, trying things out, adjusting guns, yada yada yada, but again, hey, we'll never know if they're even working on the game anymore since they never respond or make updates on the forums.

    So sad, so sad...

GoW has sold at least 3x as many copies as R6 Vegas. Don't expect it to get bumped off that list until Halo 3 comes out...Remember that list also counts people playing single player and co-op, both areas where GoW has a huge advantage in replay value.

yeh good point although meanmf is right GOW has sold many more than R6V, even if ubisoft did keep us informed and released new maps and all that i still don't think they'd be knocked off the top IMO. At the end of the day it all counts towards how many copies are sold.

A lot of people don't read these sites or have any idea what ubisoft are doing or not doing. They just play the game that most people says is brilliant.

You guys have made very good Points about GOW selling more and what not, but let me ask you this...

Do you think more people would buy this game if they had more DLC. My feeling is yes. I mean I have played GOW one time on Single player and after hearing about all the new Map Packs and what not I am thinking about popping this game back in and trying to get into it more. So i just wonder if there Sales per Game would increase if they had more DLC.

I mean when anyone releases DLC its a great PR move the forums are always flying and on Xbox.com and the market place it has totally promotes the game.

I think that everyone keeps forgetting a little game called "Rainbow Six: Lockdown". Alot of people dropped support for this series when that game was released. That has got to have effected sales for Rainbow Six Vegas. You think the attitudes are bad on the Vegas forum, you should have been around forums when Lockdown came out. Because of what I read on forums such as this one, I didn't even purchase Lockdown. It wasn't until after promises by Ubisoft to change things back with Vegas that I decided to buy from them again.

I wouldn't be so quick to say that people don't research things before they buy them. Just because we have a small group on the Ubisoft forum, that doesn't even begin to touch the number of users on the multitude of forums that talk about RB6 and other Ubisoft titles.

In the end, I am not trying to bash Ubisoft either, I just feel that they could greatly improve their standing in the market and with customers if they went back to the old days of great customer service. Thanks.

P.S. I have to admit that GOW CO-OP is pretty damned fun. I like how the story splits at times. Great replay value with the SP and CO-OP.

I dont think it's got anything to do with content or even the actual game, it's got everything to do with marketing, GOW's got it, R6V doesn't.

I have seen several ads for GOW, not a single one for R6V... 90% of people do nto rent before they buy, therefore, the only basis for their decision is advertising, probably only 10% of people actually research the games before they make the purchase... it's all about advertising, and first impressions.

It is a shame because I simply cannot stand GOW, online. Yea, I get owned at GOW, but I get owned alot playing Vegas aswell, so that has nothing to do with it.

Gears Of War to me is nothing more than eye candy. It is a very pretty game, but that's about it for me. I liked the campaign alright, and it's not so bad playing co-op, but that's where I draw the line. I hate having to shoot someone 11,000,000 times to get them to die, and that chainsaw bayonet -pffft, I have never been able to make that damn thing work. Haha. Also, I don't like 3rd person games. *shrugs*

GOW is for some people, but it's definitely not for me. Does this mean GOW is a bad game? No, it's just not for ME. This is why I think it's a shame.

Before it's release I saw several ads on regular TV during the evening hours for Vegas. I only saw GOW ads on the more "mature" cable channels. I have seen several GRAW2 ads as well.

I wonder where you get your numbers from, as marketing agencies long ago accepted that today's consumer is far more educated on the products they are looking to buy. Especially in the group you are talking about, 18-35 yr old males with a higher technology usage than the average person in the population.

Renting is definately on the decline as compared to years past. I think Online Demos have made a big impact on that front though.
