Very much agree with carbonel2011 and others' comments about this game. I'm a new mom with little time, who used to do high-level workouts 3-4 times a week but the problems with the game make the whole experience frustrating, unmotivating and BORING!
1. Like the others saying there's no option for low impact exercises, there's no option to make the exercises higher impact. A step-touch routine on an advanced program? Give me a break! That is a worthless exercise. Give me the option to step it up!
2. The game does not offer a "skip" option when teaching new exercises. Given that I only have 1/2 hr until my baby wakes up from his naps, I find it truly irritating to go through exercises I already know. And because the sensor doesn't always read things correctly, I often find myself stuck doing the same simple exercise (esp the side-knee lunge)like 20x before I can get the necessary 3 right to move on. (And yes, I have adjusted my sensor a billion times). Please, put in an option so that people of different athletic levels can skip on ahead!
3. Game does not save personal training progress. REALLY? How can you design this and NOT save progress?
Currently, I'm on the "trained" Sculpting program, and have been on it intermittently for weeks. I can't seem to finish the last third and it won't tell me how many sessions I have left till I'm done. After doing 6 of them, I got tired and quit...and yup, my progress for this portion didn't get saved. But, if I switch programs, I'll lose all my progress. Lovely catch-22.
4. I find this game is boring. I did all the cardio boxing levels and tried a couple diff personal training programs only to find the moves too simple and slow. I got a bit sore the first couple days, but after that, the programs did not advance much to further challenge me. (I'm used to "advanced" classes at the gym, so I was expecting the advanced programs to also have a very fast tempo with challenging, quick-changing steps)
My husband got this game for me seeing that it had exercises designed by Men's and Women's Health Mags. Their 20-min exercises routines are super hard but amazingly effective. I was sad to find that YourShape did not live up to the expectations what I am used to getting from Women's Health. Sorry, I think I can do better with my own Women's health exercises, a step bench and a couple of weights.
sorry i double posted i didnt know how to make print bold where people could read it easier.
I would like to say I'm enjoying this, but I can't do anything with it, because there's no way to adjust the track area. So it is expecting me to do things like lunge into my couch behind me, rather than use the 8 ft of open space in front of me. So I have no idea how good this game is, because i cant even complete the fitness test. I'm a little peeved that I just spent all this money and I can't use this at all. Anybody else have this issue that can offer a tip?
I agree wholeheartedly about problem #2 (and problem #3 I consider a symptom of the same problem). It should save your progress on each program even if you leave it for a while for the purpose of creating variety.
The in-game tips encourage you to mix things up but then it doesn't keep track of your progress! It should not only keep track on those "4 of 12 completed" bars but it would be very nice to have a number beneath those bars that says total sessions completed. That is, if you've done a full 12 session course 3 times, it should tell you "36 sessions completed" beneath the current progress bar.
I would add to this list a BIGGIE. The calorie counter gives you NO credit for using more weight. I can do the Fat Loss program with no dumbbells or with 15 lb dumbbells and I get the same calorie score. I can tell you that I can feel quite a difference though!
I really like the game and have recommended it to others but these are some items that need fixing. It feels a little incomplete and these updates would really make the community happy and develop loyalty. That encourages future DLC and game purchases.
#3. Agree i hate the resetting
#7. Def agree I want to make my own work out
#8. can't complain too much abot the calorie counter as without equipment its always gonna be an estimate.
Def agree with the advertisisng. I don' t mind it on free content but not paid.
I agree, and I will also like to add something to the Zen class. After my workout I like to cool down with the Zen class. But there are no guides to how to do this right. No matter how I try to emulate the movements of the person on the screen I'm not able to get it right. Safe to say that in stead of getting in a Zen-like mood I get PO! (This happens with some of the other exercises too, but mostly the zen class).
Somehow this game feel half finished and rushed out to make the Kinect deadline. But of course no one will ever admit to that.
Great post. I agree with everything. It would be great to design your own routine and pick and choose sessions to customize a work out or two.
I'm trying to get Yourshape to save also, same issues. Only I went through a lot of the lunge routines which I can do ONCE due to a knee injury. By the end of them, I was unable to finish with more than a 29% due to having to sit it out. But that also left no Finish button so now I have NO idea if it saved any progress and I can't do it more right now due to the knee. I know my limitations and when I need to stop. I don't want the repetition of having to start the whole thing all over again.
I also find that yes, I can be doing the exercises right and have the machine tell me to do it differently. I'm 5'2" with a bad knee. Again, I KNOW my limitations. I don't need the machine trying to make me do the splits to match the lady on the screen.
There is an add-on for the Kinect that you can get at a GameStop. It's a lens that goes in front of the camera to help people with smaller rooms. It could be worth a try for you. Our room is 'just' big enough so the lens didn't help anything.

I really like using the Kinect for a personal trainer but all the little problems make it take more effort that I don't have left to devote to a workout's interface. I have my finger's crossed that they fix a few before I give up.
