If you happen to run Il-2 on directX or hardware shaders=0, it really is your lucky day. The following was posted elsewhere by a chap called Zaelu:
Several people have tried it out (myself included) and it is just a matter of putting the two files in your 1946 directory and running in DirectX mode rather than OpenGL. For precautionary measures, I backed up my original conf.ini first though.HDR/Bloom lighting mod
I don't know if you saw it on DCS BS (LockOn ru) forums but, there is a mod for HDR/Bloom lighting. The mod is made third party and apparently not made especially for Lock On but it is running in DirectX.
I thought I would give you a heads-up here so maybe there is a guy who can understand what this mode does and how it works and maybe he can implement it in Il-2... maybe even OpenGl .
Here is the creator site:

And here is the mod for lock on (basically is the same dll for every game)

Fire up the game and fly as usual. The unedited shots below were taken by Avala without adjustments to the basic applications settings.
The creator of this little app has said that converting it to work in OpenGL (and therefore Perfect settings) is indeed posssible, but he has not worked in GL for years and is unlikely to do the conversion.
I'd like to see the word spread around a bit, in the hope that someone in the community has the knowledge to convert this for Il-2 in openGL.
I think you'll agre that the effects are very beatiful and if refined, have great promise for the game.
