Thread: A Question on the Crouching Style | Forums

  1. #1
I know this has been brought up before, but I don't think it was ever discussed on why he changes his style of crouch walk. He seems to be lower than in any of the previous games, and rocks from side to side. I'd just like to know if anybody would have the faintest idea on why he changes the style of how he moves, does it create less sound or benefit him from not being seen? IMO, the most realistic movement was in PT...

I was discussing with my friend over MSN, and he thinks that it's something to do with his legs strengthening after SC1, and SCPT. There must be a reason why it has been changed.

Any ideas people? Sorry if this has been done before, I'm just curious.

Its basically just to make the atmosphere more tense. And for realism. Its to lower visibility, make him more quiet and give him more balance. But, next to CT, SC1 has the most realistic movements, since the SAS use the technique of putting your foot parallel to steps when going up them. Its also much more quiet that way.

Thank You Desert Hawk for responding!

I'm totally with your statement on the building of tension in the atmosphere, especially with what I have seen on the Lighthouse clips. Anyway, thanks again.

Sneaking up on an enemy with the knees straight forward, would make a sudden latteral move kind of tough.

I also like that when crouching static, Sam will have one knee on the ground. The way he crouched in the previous games would be too much strain on knee joints and muscles in reallife for extended time.

Yes the SAS do. Another reason why they are the best in the world and the ones that all others are bassed on

His new form of movement gives a lot more of balance to how he moves, and it also allows him to shift his feet to avoid putting too much weight on one foot. (which, on wood floors and gravel, for instance, would be much more stealthy.)

What seems unrealistic is that Sam can keep his legs bent and crouched forever. When he's not even moving! After a while, I would think his legs buckle and weaken. Even if he is a extra seasoned Navy SEAL and has worked out.

What would be better is that when he's not moving, he should squat down. I kinda saw this sorta thing on "The Ocean Compound" movie. You can see when he stops crouch-walking, he squats down.
