Hello all,
First let me say I'm a noob to these forums.
Now, I just have a simple question for you guys.
What are your hopes for Far Cry 3?
Personally, I would like to see an immersive experience similar to that of both FC1 and FC2. No flashy HUD, metagames, or other such childish nonsense. This means no XP popups, UBI!
I don't even want a minimap. Hopefully such features can be adjusted via the pause menu.
I would also like to see FC3 improve on FC2's shortcomings. No instantly-respawning guard posts or game breaking bugs. I believe more responsive controls are due as well. The missions also deserve a bit more variety.
As far as the singleplayer, I think I'll be happy with almost anything (although I'm a bit displeased with the cliche insane islanders).
I hope the Buddy system returns at least in some degree (friendly NPC's?). Safehouses and guard posts don't seem to fit with the theme, however. And please, Ubisoft, keep the knife-throwing ninja stuff to a minimum: is our friendly neighborhood vacationer some sort of super-soldier?
In terms of gear and weapons, I would like to see the return of the handheld map and GPS along with jeeps, gunboats, and hang gliders, and some sort of heavy sniper rifle. And I think we can all agree that the Far Cry series has long been in need of monster trucks.
As for multiplayer, I believe it could be diversified with more game modes and customization options. I like FC2's loadout system but I really loved FC1's on-map weapons.
Maybe load times and graphics could be improved upon as well.
I'm sure you all have heard most of this before, but I would just like to share my USD 0.02. Thanks for your time.

The community here is, sadly, quite divided
Expect your FC3 experience to be dumb down a bit(confirmed) from its roots due to a high demand of another linear generic shooter
Now the true question is: How much will it be dumbed down?
It won't be another Far Cry 2 for sure; FC2 and all its glory is dead and gone.
Then again art is in the eyes of the beholder
Sorry for such a ****ant welcome. Anyway, welcome!

There is no suggestion so far that Far Cry 3 will be a generic linear shooter at all. On the contrary, Dan Hay in his interviews has hinted that the game will be open world.
I'm also not sure how you're managing to form conclusions from what info is available on the game. I've scoured the net since the announcement and there's nothing to make me think your belief of what Far Cry 3 will be is anything more than negative guesswork.
Welcome xsquirrelstewx. I have a lot of expectation for FC3 which I'm trying to tone down (it can create unrealistic expectation!). But if they can keep those elements of FC2 that worked, improve or remove those that didn't and throw in a few new things then I'll be happy.
If they produce a game that I can still play two and half years later then great. If not... there's always FC2 to fall back on.

Thanks for the welcome.
k4Anarky2011, those are my fears exactly. Like you, I don't want Far Cry to become another generic shooter.
And curtmantle, you summed up my expectations perfectly. I hope for (and, frankly, expect) a solid, well rounded Far Cry game.

I hope it isn't [edit]do not bypass the swear filter because Far Cry 2s Multiplayer was a disgrace.
My hopes are that it will be fun to play - simple really - not a lot to ask.
