Thread: This game is tough! Especially torpedoing! | Forums

I'm stuck at the tutorial torpedoing section. Can you believe it? I mean in the tutorial, its set on the easiest mode, with all the data presented to you! Intercepting ships well to give you an awesome gyro angle of 0-2 degrees is tough! Any tips?

I didn't bother with the naval academy. The earlier missions are like training anyway.

The best way to learn is through practice, practice, practice.

The learning curve for a novice to SHIII is quite rounded to start but as you put in some hours into the game you should start to see how you can improve from for your errors.

Simple strategy to sink ships for a novice

Get a 0 to 10 degrees gyro angle on the beam of the ship or as near to 90'o as possible, get close 700-1000 mtrs, open tube doors 'Q' and fire a 5 degree spread of 2 torpedos.

remember, try try again and dont give up if you fail to hit your ship...its all part of the fun of SHIII.

If you are trying to torpedo the small merchant in the tutorial you will nearly always miss due to the sailing model.

Ships can go from a standing start to moving within seconds and top speed withing a minute or so.

Shoot all the other ships as they are moving and you should be right.

One of the stupidest things in game design is the lack of uncertainty given to the player

Yea, but how do you intercept the ships? especially when thye are moving. how do you get a 90 degree AOB? Btw, i don't understand something. Whats gyro angle? Does a 90 degree AOB mean a 0 degree gyro angle?

Also, currently, the firing solution is set to automatic. And its already so difficult. Imagine if its set to manual! It would be near impossible!

Btw, wheres the settings for realism? I can't find it.

Just go abeam of the ship (i.e. perpendicular), open your torpedo tube (press Q) and then fire when the lock turns green.

Don't know how long it took, didn't chk. 5 of 5, with out moving. Saved the tanker for last. Was a ***** @4800+ Kilometers.
Don't get me wrong, I've only done it once. Usually its 3 of 5. I was using it to get used to seeing the ships at different angles, making my estimates, then compare to what it actually was so I could improve my estimates.
Just kinda figure the Tut is for improving your proficientcy on the equipment. Might as well make it as hard as possible.
