Thread: Silent hunter 3 vs 4 | Forums

I just got this game but the interface and controls seem weak compared to silent hunter 3.

Seems almost like ubi took some of our control as far as the Crew and torpedo solutions manual /auto ect. The graphics are way better tho 2 thumbs up there actually being able to see the flags ect.

And what is up with the gar class sub I get in my AA gun and the armor blocks my veiw fromj 0-45 degree pitch the texture covers my screen and I cant see the enemy its the armor behind me to not infront like wth.

Seems like I lost control options / And what is up with the Missions in career mode I go to marked location and do a 24 hour patrol. But it never gives me a mission complete so I can go and hunt enemy ships? I tried doing circles around star patrol patterns and everything but I get no completion what am I doing wrong?

I also feel that silent hunter 3 is a lot better than silent hunter 4. It is just a lot more enjoyable for me. The big reason l feel this is because of all the air patrols, l can not stand having to crash dive every other minute. As a result l now only patrol on the surface at night

Don't play stock. It's like chewing on aluminum foil. D/L and run a supermod like RFB, or TMO. You'll have much more fun that way.

For me, burnout is always one step away.

I agree ironside, After more inspection the interface didnt change to much but 3 was way better it seemed as tho being under water had more advantage then than it does in this one.

On 4 its almost impossible to do anything under water. Damage control also seems slow going and useless.Torpedo reload slow man its terible. and whats up with soon as my attack scope comes outa the water I get attacked on all sides before I am even under active ping lmao.

Graphics are way better I give them a 9/10.

Battle interface 7/10. (only an 7 because the explosions lol. OMG NO RTB [Return to base key I have to flot an extra 20 mins when outa ammo your joking right?])

Control 7/10 (Almost impossible to judge range without periscope. Boats on the hydrophone should leave a ghost for manual solutions not just a line)

As for ducimis- I see you mentioned some mods, I also mod and hack things What do these mods you mentioned offer? (A return to base key? I hope If not I will just have to program the call address myself to a hotkey.)

Thanks for feed back guys any other comments are welcome or feedback to my replys

There is no "return to base key" in SH4. you gota sail back just like they did in real life.
Time compression makes this easy. With 24 fish there isn't as much need to RTB as in SH3.

Your AA gun will be better as you get a better boat.

The game controls are different but it takes some time to learn to use them right.

Stay within 50 Nm. of the star for 48 hours.

Put your crew at battle stations will improve damage repair and reloads.
Real damage repair was not all that fast, if anything in the game it is way too fast.

If you want to attack Task Forces you had better learn the shoot from long range.

If you are having trouble with stock escorts than you do not want to load up Ducimus
TMO mod as it makes the escorts even tougher.
TMO is an excellent mod and improves many things in the game. It is what I play most of the time.
RFB is also excellent, plays more realistic.

I'm warming up to the game a bit now.

I generally only use homing torpedoes so long range is outa the question.

Time compression doesnt make returning to base easier. When your going through high naval traffic areas your compression drops to 8 every 5 seconds which is extremely agrovating.

Missions should be withing 1000 nautical miles of your home base if theres no rtb function. If I'm outa ammo it shouldnt take me 20-40 minutes to restock its a waste of gaming time almost ruins the game. Not to mention in a cripled vessle takes even longer.

If you think about this for a minute, you might see that this is how it was for the US Submarines. They traveled thousands of miles to take the war to the Japanese. It was not an easy job, The Silent Service had the highest mortality rate of any of the branches of the US Navy. To them it wasn't just a game. There is no real way to compare the PTO to the ATO.

    I gotta remember that one.

    I voted SH3.
Even with all the great mods SH4 still has to many bugs and issues for my taste.
After the manual TDC issues with SH4 I shelved it and moved on.
