Thread: Time compression CPU slowdown | Forums

  1. #1
I've seen a thread about this before but no real answers on it.. So going to ask again.

On Silent Hunter: Wolves of the Pacific U-boat Missions add-on, during the end of a patrol when I try to time compress, up to 128 it starts getting really jumpy and anything past that it's like 0 FPS all the way. When on Silent Hunter: Wolves of the Pacific, the normal one, it plays fine and no matter what time or when, I can have time compression to 8162 or whatever it is and be fine.

It's not my computer's ability to handle it. I have a i7-920 core, GTX 295 gpu, 12GB triple channel memory, etc. Just weird that on U-boat Missions add-on does it but not the original SH IV.

PS: Would also like to add that it randomly crashes as well in navigation map and when I try to exit to windows, it crashes and get the lovely "Silent Hunter has stopped working" thing.

PSS: I also bought both versions of the game off Steam. My computer is up-to-date with everything, SP2, and all my hardware is up-to-date.

I am not sure what might be wrong but from being on this forum I have seen a few people that have problems that download the game from Steam.
You may have gotten a bad download of U-boat missions from steam. I don't know this, it is just a guess.
It is to bad you can't get a Dvd of the game.

If you are running XP the newest is SP3.

    Thanks Yooperbacker.

And no, I have Vista Home Premium 64-bit so no XP here unfortunately.

Yeah, I thought that but then I also know how bad Steam doesn't like to refund, etc. Though I wouldn't really think it'd be a bad download from Steam since I uninstalled the game several times and reinstalled it each time doing a registry cleaner so it's hard telling. The add-on seems really fun and a bit nicer than the regular version, just wish I could play it.

Since you bumped this maybe someone that is familiar with Vista will be able to help you.

When you try speeding it up are you looking at the Nav. map?
I know with me and XP if I have been on a long patrol it takes a bit longer to load and time compression slows a bit but I never go above 2000 because my computer can't handle it.

Yeah, I'm in the navigation screen because that's the only one that will go above x32 time compression. And my computer can handle the max compression, and it did consistently with SH4 but with the U-boat missions, once it got to x512 or so, my FPS suddenly dropped from like 90-100 fps to like 50, then every increase dropped it by 50% all the way to like 0-1 fps. New or old patrol.

Since I don't have Vista I don't know if you have this option or if it will help but with XP it seems to make SH4 run better for me.

I go to My Computer on my desk top, right click on it and go to Properties. A box comes up and in the middle of this box it says - Disk Cleanup. I click this and do a disk cleanup. It seems to help. If you do have this option and you haven't used it in awhile it may take a bit of time for it to run.

Yeah, it's just weird that for the regular SH 4 game, I never had a problem. Then when I installed the add-on, I had a problem. It's odd.

And sorry, this didn't help either unfortunately. =(

Yours is the exact opposite of what happened with me. When I installed the Uboat Add-on, which contained the '1.5 patch' I found that framerates got better. Can I suggest that you re-install the add-on, know it involves a bit of messing around but maybe the install didn't work properly.
