OK, here's how it is. I just started a new career with stock 1.4. Started in June 1942 at 'Normal' settings. Got the Finback, went into my CFG folders and renamed it Hammerjaw. Restarted game and had appx. 42% realism.
Went through gameplay settings, checked 'Limited fuel', 'Limited O2', 'Realistic reloads' and 'No stabilize view', bringing my realism up to 65%. Applied changes. Sailed from Pearl. The above mentioned settings had not taken effect. Please tell me this is not a 1.4 bug.

Did you go to options in the Office before you started your career and made your changes there?

No, I hit 'Options' on the main menu and then 'Gameplay Settings'. Should I have done it from the office screen?
Yes, the options in the main menu are for quick missions. To adjust the options in campagn, you must go into the options screen in the office at the beggining of a campagn.

Thanks for the heads up....I too thought the menu options would apply to a career....
Gotta take care of that before I continue...
OK. Same conditions as I listed above. NOW the dang thing won't load. It loads fine if I'm starting out on a patrol (i.e. going to the office screen, clicking on the map, getting my objective and starting the patrol. But if I save in mid-patrol, quit the game and then try to pick up later where I left off, I get a 'Load game failed'. NOW what??!!
(Also, like most everybody else around here, I'm sick and tired of being jumped by plane after plane after plane, especially when my batteries are dead and I can't dive. Are you listening, Ubisoft?)

You are giving the save game a file name, right?
Getting jumped by planes is indeed a nuisance in the stock version.
You can do one of two things to alleviate the problem.
1. Move your boat away from that air patrol route, or....
2. Load up the TMO Mod. It cuts air search traffic considerably.
Or you could stay on the surface and slug it out with the skeeters.
