Since settlers 4 bluebyte has changed settlers no longer is it the cute game with the little settlers it has joined the other games like lords of the realm. to built up on the graphics and money and left its origns beind.

Well I will just make a comment here - my adult son spent hours playing S1 on the Amiga, missed S2, but bought S3 and S4 which he played quite often.

Then he bought HOK, and both expansion cds, and after finishing all the missions on them, still enjoyed playing the game so he downloaded several maps from the mapbase (using a German translator to work out what tasks were set to complete the missions).

Now he has played the demo of RoaE, and will be picking up his game tonight. So although each game is different, he is prepared to go with the progression away from the original settlers.

I think there will be quite a few players on here who havent played the original Settlers series,alot were disgruntled(Im being polite) when S5 was brought out,and left the forums.We got a big influx onto the forums with the launch of HoK.

I agree 100% with your poll question,I really do miss those little guys,when I load S6 I cant help thinking how awesome those graphics would be with the little guys.Im not holding my breath for their return,miracles do happen .

Yes, I think they ahve left their cutsey roots in the past now and have attempted to make this game more of an RTS/Lord of the Realms style game.

There was a rather huge hub bub about HOK when it was released and many people didn't like it. Of course some people did like it too.

Personally I think ROAE would have done better to go back to it's roots with updated graphics and new twists to their adventures instead of following so closely (IMO) to HOK which I thought was an abomination of the Settlers franchise. I do miss many of the chained productions and the cute lil settlers that were needed to accomplish most things in the game.

Though I don't think that S6 is an abomination I do believe they didn't bring back the fun, cute, enjoyable flavor of the settlers games that once was. In other words, it's not terrible, but it could be a lot better.

Perhaps Settlers 2 aniversary edition might be in order to bring back that flavor, though I would have hoped more for a settler 4 aniversary edition with updated graphics slightly and able to play on more modern hardware properly (like widescreen monitors)

We would have to wait till 2011 for an S4 anniversary edition

I don't know when Settlers 4 was released but why not a gold version released in the USA and the rest of the world with tweaked graphics. I mean we don't need to wait for 10 year anniversary. Graphics are pretty much outdated after 5 years. It would be one way to squeeze more money out of the franchise. If the sales are better than settlers 6 then they would know to change the direction back to a more old school approach.
