20. April 1943 and my Gato class has still the old conning tower.
Not even the first cut-down upgrade was offered to me by now.
Is this a bug ?
Is there a way to manually get me the upgrade by modifying a file in the savegames folder ?

Smash it into a BB's hull... this should mod your conning tower pretty quickly...
Anyway, no, I don't think it's a bug... Ducimus explained that there's a chance you are offered a refit every time you get back into harbor... Dunno how much this chance is likely to happend, tho...
As a refit comes available you have a random chance to get it, when you dock, when finishing a patrol. What determines the odds of getting one? Ive no idea. Its basically a roll of the dice.
Its kind of a PITA, but you could save the game before docking at the end of a patrol, and then reload the game and dock until you get a refit.
For me, burnout is always one step away.

Thanks
Hmmm, strange that the devs made this decision.![]()
A conning tower modification was surely a mandatory order for all boats ,ASAP once the decision was made.
I dont think that there were fleet boats which still had the standard conning tower in 1943 or where there any ?
At least i like that you dont have to "pay" renown for this anymore as you had to in SH-III .

I think so. On the assumption that they grey paintjob came around the same time as the final cutdowns of the conning tower, this site is rather interesting:
http://www.shipcamouflage.com/submarines.htm
At the very least, we see that they didnt start painting submarines grey until fairly late in the war.
For me, burnout is always one step away.
But changing conning tower and painting in SH4, is only an aestethic improvement, or will influence gameplay too, for example making the submarine harder to spot?

Conning tower and paint is only asthetic. Doesnt effect gameplay. Unless you count the 2nd AA gun with the final late war varient towers.

Well yes of course... but personally I've used my AA gun just once or twice (not even sure whether against a plane or not), so I don't think thata twin AA would make such a difference...![]()
