Hello everyone. I just got a new computer and a new copy of Far Cry with it. I installed it, installed the 1.3 patch and then tried to run it. When I clicked on the icon I get the splash scree with the two people, then it goes to an error message to asking if I want to send the error report. The error I am seeing is Appname: Farcry.exe, AppVer: 1.1.0.1230, Modname: ~df 394b.tmp, ModVer: 0.0.0.0, Offset: 0008d86b.
My specs are:
Athlon 64 3500+
1GB RAM
160GB HD
BFG 6800 GT PCie 256MB Video w/newest drivers 71.84.
Windows XP Home Edition SP2 with newest patches
Can anyone help me. I tried to uninstall and re-install. Use it with and without the 1.3 patch.
Thanks.

That's the same response and error I get after about three minutes. I've been beating on my inspiron XPS for about a week and am almost certain this error is related to the copy protection not wanting to let me run the thing from a combo CDRW/DVD drive.
Note that while it's not quite launching, there is another process running named ~e5.0001. finding the associated file reveals it is a macrovision file.
Anyone know if there is a definitive list of drives this game simply will not work with?

Ksmith, Welcome to the forum!
The patch that jbyrtus says to load in theory shouldn't fix it but it is worth a try.
All it did was fix a multiplayer bug and revise some DLLs for detecting pirated installations.
I am assuming that the uninstall reinstall is dont correctly, by uninstalling the patch first then the game?
At first glance it looks like an OS or HW problem... but I dont know that particular error code...
Krakens theory about copyprotection may be valid, but that ussually causes problems with the install not the running. Do you have any copy software on the machine?
Have you run any memory test programs so check you own system out?
@Kraken, 'a' list of incompatable drives is on the UBI support site, but these are based on the FW not being able to read the disc, not the fact that there is a copy capability.
My Laptop is a DVD/CDRW and the game works fine...
The other application you see running is normal (for me anyways!)

Well, I had already tested it with the patch and without. But did it again. The drive it was installed on is a DVD ROM drive. I have a DVD-RW drive in the system NEC ND-3520A. I also have Nero software.
This is very frustrating.

I am ready to be corrected, but i think nero is one of the programs that FC objects to.
Two suggested options.
1. If it is easy to reinstall, remove nero from the machine. This if you ensur the registry is cleaned out afterwards would give a quick indication if that is what is causing it.
2. Likewise you could set up another profile on the system where nero is not present.

I have nero 6 which has been ok for me.

CuZ, Thanks for the thoughts, I may have locked onto the copy protection prematurely, but since I can't see any other reason my machine wouldn't run the game it seemed most likely to me. I have a Dell Inspiron XPS I bought less than two months ago to take on an impending year-long trip to a lovely spot in SW Asia. Since I'll mostly be in a relatively safe area, I may have some time to game and I didn't want to ship a full-size gaming rig over.
Anyway, the specs are Inspiron XPS
3.4 H/T processor
1 gig ram
256mb ati mobility radeon 9800
15.4 wide aspect ultra sharp
wuxga(1920x1200) display
Operating system windows xp home
Service pk 2
directx 9.0C
The optical drive is a Samsung SN-324S CDRW/DVD combo drive and the thing came with Sonic recording software installed. I've already uninstalled the dynamic letter assignment software, and will remove the rest this weekend.
In my troubleshooting, I restored the system to as delivered (CTRL-F11 on boot), then updated system BIOS, vid card bios, and all drivers to their current ones as supplied by Dell. Regardless of what I try, including a boot with almost nothing loading, I get the splash screen for 3 minutes followed by the error message ksmith0711 describes.
BTW sorry if I'm hijacking your thread but it seems we have essentially the same problem so I didn't think I should start a new one
